Overall Satisfaction with Slack
We use Slack for both company-wide communications and employee-to-employee interactions. We can have small, lightweight chats without the slowdown of email or meetings on specific topics, and also share company-wide communications quickly. As a remote organization, this is vital for us.
Pros
- Enable light weight fast real time communications.
- Organized Slack groups (such as departments, teams, project-based, or ERGs) to consolidate messaging when needed.
- Culture - create informal watercooler chats, partner with outside integrations to put in, for example, a different topic or question per week to bring forward more conversation.
Cons
- Sometimes key information can get buried in busy channels, even if you pin it. I'm not sure how this could be fixed.
- It would be beneficial to adjust settings to prevent overwhelming people with notifications across all channels. I'm unsure how to strike a balance between ensuring people don't miss important notifications and not being overwhelmed with non-essential ones. Perhaps implementing the ability to categorize messages by urgency level could help?
- Very expensive, would be nice to have a scaling cost for smaller orgs that could benefit.
- We are able to get information to people faster so they are able to pivot as needed on important business objectives.
- People are able to work together/collaborate more easily since they can get in contact more easily and create project-based Slack channels.
- Culture-wise, we are able to bring folks together and make them more company/mission-oriented.
