Overall Satisfaction with Slack

Effective communication for staff working in the office and remote. Working remote shouldn't be a disadvantage so to have the ability to chat to and instantly call people makes project work significantly easier. Adding on top of that the integrations with our tech stack, it makes collaboration and multi department work a smoother process.

Pros

  • Integration with software
  • Easy to use layout
  • Instant messaging for effective remote staff communication
  • Ability to message outside of hours without staff feeling they need to respond

Cons

  • Some of the reminders about words can be annoying
  • Message searching can be challenging
  • Finding media within chats
  • Accurate status of people you're messaging - whether they're online or not
  • Saved us £30,000 in total by employing remote rather than having to hire someone full-time in the office
There are some things that are difficult about it such as the search and file features not being all that easy to use.

But everything else is very easy to use. And when working across departments, it's easy to switch and not confuse.

The ability to communicate off mobile limits staff having to share personal mobile numbers and they can easily turn off notifications outside of work hours.
Microsoft Teams is the closest alternative. Its ability to link up with the calendar is useful. However, Slack is on a different level in terms of usability and functionality to be able to integrate with different softwares.

WhatsApp Business doesn't have the same function as it's more used for communication externally rather than internally. Also doesn't have the same level of integration.

Would you buy Slack again?

Yes

We have a remote worker in Kosovo who has to work different hours due to the time difference and being freelance. He is able to log in to Slack as and when he needs to check messages and when it's outside of his working hours, notifications won't pop up to disturb his time outside of work. However, this sometimes has a drawback as there are times when he is working and doesn't get notified because Slack has turned off his notifications. Alongside that, the ability to integrate with our tech stack ensures that there is effective communication and updates when project statuses change.
