Overall Satisfaction with Slack

- Corporate chat
- Corporate communication
- Corporation organization of key documents that must be easily accessible by everyone (i.e.: HR policies)
- Triggered communication regarding product development processes (i.e.: new PRs, critical errors)
- Communication and coordination of key initiatives (one Slack channel for each key initiative)

Pros

  • Corporate chat
  • Corporate announcements
  • Triggered communications

Cons

  • The reply feature: sometimes information get lost and people don't always know how to use it (discoverability problem)
  • Message preview sometimes can be clumsy with a lot of space being used and the preview is not valuable enough
  • New messages in some channels can get lost because the UI visual clue is just too subtle (the bold of the letters are usually not enough)
  • You can not define a standard view for everyone. So key channels for corporate communication are not always easily accessible (meaning they do not occupy a prime location on the interface)
  • Improved complaint communication (meaning WhatsApp is no longer being used as heavily as before Slack)
  • Improved time-to-reaction with triggered communication using automated workflows and integration with other tools
  • Improved corporate communication through special channels
For a chat based communication, is the best I have ever used. But it still lacks quality for audio and video communication.

For example, in Discord you can create audio channels that people can join with a frictionless experience. In Slack, you have to manually start a audio communication (huddle) every time.

In addition, video communication usually faces more than normal lags and instabilities while compared to Google Meet.
It is the best for chat based communication with a high level of security and compliance.

I think the user experience is so much better than Google Chat and Discord. To me, there is basically no comparison - the others feels not intuitive with a cluttered interface.

A big bonus is the amount of integrations easily accessible in order to seamless integrate with Slack.

Appropriate:
Corporate chat, corporate communication, communication and coordination of initiatives, triggered communications between a lot of tools, compliance and security.

Less appropriate:
You want to foster audio and video communication, you want to replicate a office-like feeling, you do not want to spend a lot of money on a communication tool.
