Overall Satisfaction with Splashtop
We (local government entity) are utilizing Splashtop for remote access for several departments, allowing department heads to work remotely from a Town-issued laptop and remote into their work desktop PCs. Users are able to access all work resources as though they are sitting in front of their desktop PC, but from their laptops, and from any location with a network connection. The IT Department consists of only me, so having a solution as straightforward as this has been an incredible weight off my shoulders.
Pros
- Connection speed. Users have reported very little latency (and I have verified this myself administering a work server from home).
- Support. The sales and technical support departments at Splashtop have been extremely helpful and very quick to respond to inquiries or requests. Samuel Frescas and Aaron Changeur both are excellent to work with and go above and beyond to assist.
- Ease of setup. Installation consists of two pieces of software installed on applicable devices (device remoting from and device remoting to). Users are invited by email, create their own accounts, and can then be assigned to their individual laptop and desktop workstations. Setup for each user was able to be completed within the span of 15 minutes, from account creation to remoting into their workstation.
- Account management. Admins have comprehensive control over users and endpoints. All aspects of this are configurable and straightforward.
Cons
- I currently see no way for Splashtop to improve, however, I have only used their service for around two weeks. So far, the service has worked perfectly, the support is fantastic, and the price is awesome for a small team.
- I am as of yet unable to provide hard numbers, since our implementation of Splashtop is still in its infancy. I will say that Splashtop has allowed my users to work from home, which has been extremely helpful and timely during a recent tropical storm. Our Town cannot shut down, so allowing department heads to work securely from the safety of their homes was critical in keeping the Town in operation.
Splashtop's security features are well in alignment with industry best practices, and I have no complaints about this. I trust them much more than... other remote access software vendors which I will not name here.
It was extremely easy to set up and configure Splashtop for my users, despite having never done this before. I installed Splashtop Business on their laptops, Splashtop Streamer on their desktop PCs, and provisioned them the correct access in the admin center, and just like that, they were able to remote in without issue. Controls are also easy to understand, even for novice users.
