Overall Satisfaction with Splashtop

We utilize Splashtop to provide remote workstation access to all of our front office employees. Whether someone is needing to work from home for a while or our sales team is on the road and needing access to their in-office systems, Splashtop allows us to easily provide secure, remote access to multiple employees across many devices.

Pros

  • Easy to set up and easy to use

Cons

  • Slight input lag - not any worse than any other "streamer" but still noticable
  • If the workstation being accessed has a different number of monitors from the remote device accessing it, switching between displays can be cumbersome
  • Can be set to launch automatically upon workstation start up, but this function seems to occasionally fail at random, necessitating manual launching of the software by someone in the office
  • Allows our sales team to travel to industry shows while maintaining access to their home workstations
  • Allows our company to offer flexibility if an employee needs to work from home for a time
  • Allows our core front office team to make changes in our home ERP system while meeting with clients out of the office
Splashtop has good customer support - they respond quickly and provide adequate solutions, but we honestly rarely find ourselves needing to reach out to them. The software is so easy to use and about as plug-and-play as it gets, so we generally don't run into an issue that does not have an immediate, obvious solution provided in the software.
Splashtop's security is right on par with standard practices. Users are required to log in before accessing remote workstations and also must log in to the remote workstation itself. Two-factor authentication is used and easily set up. Admin controls are also available and easy to use. Admins can control which users have access to which devices, facilitate password resets, disable users, etc.
Splashtop's ease of setup is by far its best feature. From start to finish, admins can set up a new user, set up a new workstation, set up a new remote device, and have them all connected and up and running in ten minutes. The only real time constraint is how quickly you can download the software to each device (it probably takes 30 seconds).

Splashtop is extremely well suited for inexpensive, easy, plug-and-play remote access to workstations. It isn't perfect for applications that require low latency or extremely high audio/visual fidelity (you aren't going to be online gaming or video editing very well), but for every-day tasks like checking office emails, accessing files that are stored locally, working in excel, etc, it is a great tool.
