Overall Satisfaction with Spryker Cloud Commerce OS

At NFQ Asia, we use Spryker to build e-commerce solutions for some clients. The Spryker Commerce OS solves different problems on both B2B and B2C shops. It establishes a standard of organising the codebase structure, designing our database, connecting to third-party applications, etc... Furthermore, Spryker Commerce OS is highly flexible, allowing us to customise the shop to the varying needs of our clients. There are also many pre-built packages that we can start using immediately with a minimum effort for configuration.

Pros

  • Well structured codebase architecture.
  • Flexible to extend.
  • A good built-in solution for search.
  • The state machine for business processes.
  • The default implementation is already scalable.
  • Support multi stores.

Cons

  • The documentation and developer bootcamp is sometimes out-of-date.
  • Open code, not open source, all bugs need to be submitted to an internal system without accepting patches from communities.
  • Steep learning curve.
  • The bridges at the core level sometimes cause difficulties in project-level implementation.
  • A standard for the online shop
  • Faster storefront for clients
  • The abilities to have different stores on different markets
Spryker is more advanced and allow more customization. The storefront is already fast in Spryker default implementation without any special settings. Spryker Commerce OS also fit better with complex business requirements and have a clearer approach to connect with third-party application or data-sources.
We haven't had that many points of contact with support so far.
The back office is enough for daily usage.
Both storefront and back office can be extended easily in code.
There is a good command line interface.

It is well suited for medium to large shops that need to connect to different external systems (PIM, CMS, CRM, OMS, etc...). The Spryker architecture makes it plays nicely with varying models of deployment. However, both software engineers and DevOps engineers have a steep learning curve to develop the Spryker shop correctly. This solution may not be the answer for small businesses that want a lightweight e-commerce solution.
