Overall Satisfaction with Squarespace

I used Squarespace to create a quick and good looking website for a working band. They were looking for a website that would be quick and easy for them to update having no technical skills. It needed to link up to third party music services to play their music and allow them to sell their albums online.
  • Good looking themes to choose from.
  • Quick and easy setup.
  • eCommerce tools.
  • Ability to fine tune styling through CSS for pros.
  • Ability to add editable areas through HTML for pros.
  • Speed of implementation.
  • Low barrier of entry.
  • Low cost.
WordPress is a full featured blogging powerhouse with tons of extensions and huge user base. You can start with a WordPress.com blog and when you outgrow it you can set up your own server with the WordPress.org site and import your content to it. It's less straightforward than Squarespace but more malleable in the long run.
Squarespace will get you online with a good looking website very quickly. Sell your wares, showcase your photography, play your music, etc. It's easy to get started and easy to modify content once you're already online. A small site is a good fit for Squarespace. It's less appropriate for more complex websites especially if you need to integrate with less well known third party services.

Evaluating Squarespace and Competitors

Yes - We replaced an old WYSIWYG built website provided by a hosting company. A very out dated, un-responsive site and hosting package were dropped in favor of a nice looking Squarespace site that was much easier for the end client/content-creator to use. They were guided through the process by the nice interface and felt empowered to make their own changes. They felt as if they couldn't make a mistake with the new site.
  • Price
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
  • Product Reputation
  • Vendor Reputation
A good reputation goes a long way. You combine that with the very attractive themes available, take a gander at the slew of popular artists and well known brands using Squarespace – you know you're in good company. I feel good recommending Squarespace by the company they keep.
I wouldn't change anything. The tool was easy to set up. Easy to recommend. Easy to get buy in. Easy to get my client up and running.

Using Squarespace

It's dead simple to use. There are no over complicated controls or tons of menus to screw things up. People with bad taste couldn't make an ugly website. While it may be frustrating for the pro designer to get exactly what they want, it prevents the uninitiated from making something ugly.
