Overall Satisfaction with Tableau Desktop

Tableau Desktop is a versatile analytic industry wide tool used for various visualization and analytic project across clients' servers by my organization.
  • Good analytic Platform
  • Versatile tool for visualization
  • Very easy to create diverse visualization
  • Flexible in terms of data source option from Excel to Microsoft cube
  • No predictive analytical capabilities
  • Statistically challenged and provides limited statistics functionality as compared to Microsoft Excel

Tableau Desktop needs no to minimal coding experience. It easily integrates with various data sources. It is very easy to create usable smart reports.
Tableau Desktop is well suited for simple to medium analytics. It does good job with almost no IT resources and support. It is best when you need to sort, filter and choose data.

Using Tableau Desktop

10 - Consulting services
3 - Consultants, Business Analyst, Test Engineer
  • Predictive analytics
  • Integration with Google maps or maps better than Map View or a native Tableau map
  • Reporting
  • Distribution analytics
  • Transmission analytics
  • Utility industry data availability
  • We use it for clients who have difficulty visualizing the data and make sense out of the terabytes of data they already have.
  • Developed dashboards to showcase our company strenghts
  • Mostly, we use it for client needs. When they have very big set of data and want to see summary and want to solve some of the business challenges

Evaluating Tableau Desktop and Competitors

  • Price
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
  • Product Reputation
Product features and ease of use is the most important factor. A novice user or a business analyst can make lot of sense of data with the help of powerful reports which come from Tableau Desktop.
We would have probably looked more at Tableau's policy on server upgrades and licensing.

Tableau Desktop Implementation

Please keep the end goal in sight and be flexible to upgrades from Tableau. Wish Tableau would provide some contingency such that if upgrading to newer version, a test could be done on the newer version before completely upgrading.
  • Implemented in-house
  • Professional services company
We as an organization have capabilities to deliver Tableau dashboards. our company resources are tableau certified and have required knowledge and skill set required to implement Tableau desktop. our IT team provides an ongoing support in case of any issues and we always reach out to tableau support in case issues are not resolved internally.
Yes - Yes, there was planning, requirement gathering, data model creation, developing prototype of the actual implementation, followed by the actual development work and then testing before it was delivered.
Change management was a big part of the implementation and was well-handled - Our Internal IT support team does the job well. they are trained professional to carry out change management process.
  • A server upgrade is cumbesome and licenses are very stringent
  • Custom Visulaization
  • UI Rich features such as gauges

Tableau Desktop Support

My team has had a good experience so far with Tableau's support. They always responded in reasonable time frame. they always highlighted if a particular feature was not available in the version of Tableau we were using and recommended a later version where the feature was available. This saved us lot of R&D times, we would have put to figure things by ourselves.
ProsCons
Kept well informed
No escalation required

Support cares about my success
