Overall Satisfaction with TeamViewer
Our organization has not settled on one solution to the remote-access problem. Each member of the team uses whatever they are most comfortable with -- or whatever our clients are using. For my part, I selected TeamViewer as my personal go-to for remote access to client desktops (and to give them access to mine). As an accounting & consulting firm, we are often working with clients on their accounting software and it is always helpful to share a screen. Moreover, TeamViewer provides the ability to hand-off control so that when a customer is frustrated, I can simply take over and fix the problem.
- Quick remote control of "owned" PCs. This means that if you often connect to the same PCs, TeamViewer is a simple solution that does not require you to download a new "app" each time you connect. TV is installed software that does not need to be updated (unless you upgrade annually).
- Switch User Controls. Need to take over control of the mouse? This will do it in a jiffy.
- Screen resolution / image. I'm always impressed by TV's ability to render the remote screen in a readable, clear and jitter-free way.
- There is no VoIP function. If you use TV with a client, you must also be connected to your remote partner by phone.
- It can be set up for "userless" remote access -- which is a great help in many situations, but could mean that your staff can get unlimited access to a client's computer. EG staff could use their own laptops and TV to access a remote client desktop in the middle of the night. Generally a Windows password would stop them from using the remote PC, but people often remain logged in... giving the TV user (your staff) unlimited access to the remote desktop at will.
- It is upgraded annually -- TV is a software company that (still) sells a full install of the software for a single price. That's cool -- one price and I keep it forever -- except that they upgrade every year and make you buy the upgrades to stay in synch with the rest of the world. I find the whole thing to be very expensive.
- Financially, TV is expensive when compared to many of the free and low-cost services that do the basic screen sharing, so in general I have probably over-spent on this particular software.
- I like the branding that is available in TV. They allow me to create self-branded web pages that provide the download app for my clients. That makes me look good and is an important, though somewhat emotional, ROI for me.
- This is not a mission-critical software for me, so I can't say that it has impacted my business objectives. But it has made my life easier in many situations!
We've used a lot of solutions -- mostly the free basic versions of the following:
ZoomRoom, Join.Me, GoToMeeting, GoToMyPC, LogMeIn, GoogleHangouts (screenshare), and Skype.
I like the reliability and service quality of TeamViewer better than any of the above... but of course I'm comparing a $1000 piece of software to a free web-site SaaS.... so I'm not sure that's a fair comparison.
