Overall Satisfaction with TriNet
One of my clients is using TriNet for payroll and HR (including benefits, 401k, etc). It is being used across the entire organization for my client. Because my client is a startup, TriNet fills the lack of having a dedicated HR department, which would not be supportable for a small startup organization. TriNet has also been a great resource for payroll questions, and ensuring compliance issues.
Pros
- On-boarding of new hires is straightforward. Because the new hire is in charge of entering his/her own W4 and direct deposit information, it takes the burden of that off of the finance team. It also eliminates the need for employee documentation to be kept hard-copy onsite at the business (uploading I9 verification documentation into TriNet keeps all of the on-boarding documentation together and secure).
- The support from the designated Client Services Associate has been phenomenal. Anytime there has been any payroll question or issue, she has responded promptly and knowledgeably.
- Unlike some PEO firms, TriNet has very clear pricing, with no hidden fees. The invoicing and the reports are clean and understandable, and easily accessible for the finance team.
- The designated Human Capital Consultant has been proactive and very helpful in assisting my client with setting up benefits and much more.
Cons
- Payroll has to submitted earlier (more days lead time) with TriNet than with some other services, which can create issues for hourly employees and new hires.
- The new beta site looks fresher (more modern) than the previous site, but is not quite as easy to navigate. It also loads more slowly.
- A couple of my client's employees had significant trouble with their FSA accounts working properly, and another employee's HSA account was not funding properly. TriNet had trouble resolving the issue.
- Management appreciates having all of the payroll, health insurance, and 401k combined and compliant through TriNet.
- The finance team and management recognizes the value of accurate payroll and on-boarding.
- For a company without a designated in-house HR team, having HR experts available through TriNet to assist with any possible issues provides enormous value.
TriNet was the clear choice (vs Insperity, ADP, Gusto, PayChex).
Insperity's reporting and customer service (as experienced at a different client) were horrible, and the fees were hidden.
ADP's PEO service didn't seem robust enough at the time (although we have not reviewed the current platform). Other experiences with ADP have been mostly fine, but there have been some frustrating lack of adequate service and/or communication issues over the years.
Gusto is adequate for very small clients who do not need or cannot afford additional support and services, but not interesting for a client seeking full service.
Paychex is unwieldy and feels like it's running on old programs that are about to fall apart. The customer service is also not great.
