Overall Satisfaction with TrustRadius for Buyers

I was involved indirectly in the selection of a Payroll and HR system, since we as a company were not pleased with the current vendor. The persons directly related with making decisions were members of the HR team and some C-level execs, I'd imagine. The choice to change vendors was theirs to decide, but we provided feedback based on our research.
  • To confirm my decision
  • To find evidence to support my recommendation to colleagues or my client
  • To see what other users think of the product I am currently using
I saw a lot of glowing reviews from organizations that were using this specific piece of software, but they seemed to mostly come from someone who was asked to give a review either from TrustRadius or from the vendor themselves. I am a skeptic, so this didn't sit well with me, but after hearing from a member of the TrustRadius team, I feel like the concern I had was not founded on facts, more suspicions.
I look for reviews that show me the true Pros and Cons of owning the item. A review that isn't coerced or fueled by the desire to get a discount or a free product is something I look for. A reviewer that provides multiple reviews on various products would be someone I would listen to more than a one-time reviewer.
The reviews are a good jumping off point, but I feel like a lot of time they might be skewed one way or the other based on prompts to review from companies or when users are so disenchanted by software that they purchased that they focus purely on the negatives and not any of the positives.
  • Fair and honest reviews from real people
  • Reviewers that are willing to say that something didn't suit them or their organization
  • A place to go to view reviews that are attached to the LinkedIn profile of the reviewer that placed the review and disclosure of where their review originated from
  • I think a push to get more unsolicited reviews (seems counter-intuitive!) from people or companies that were not asked to review and get a discount or gift card or whatever.
  • Maybe a way to see reviews provided by TrustRadius as an overlay to software you are already using? Not sure how this would be accomplished. There would be a permissions issues with this one most likely. Organizations sometimes keep something without realizing what else they could be using and this might help.
Recommendations from people in my industry on FB and LinkedIn. Also, I have used the StackExchange's forums to get a point of view from a fellow professional. I feel like the use of all of these sources together constitutes the best I could possibly do short of purchasing the software myself and testing it.
I honestly really only use TrustRadius as my review site, unless there is something that I am using that is on Amazon and there are reviews from users there.
I try to do my best to avoid basing my interactions solely on the review of a user. I don't deal with many B2B vendors, if I can help it, but the few I do deal with have probably had more questions thrown their way thanks to a comment I have seen in a user's review.
I am a born skeptic, but I do provide reviews myself so to not trust other's reviews is silly since I sure hope that people trust mine.
