Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Availability Suite

Veeam Availability Suite is being used across our entire IT organization as a primary means to backup and replicates our virtual and physical server environment. Included in Availability Suite is VeeamONE, which allows us to monitor the health of our vSphere clusters.

Think of Veeam Availability Suite as a one-stop-shop for backing up and monitoring your environment.
  • Veeam Backup and Recovery can easily restore entire VMs or files contained in the VMs, regardless of OS.
  • Extremely easy to restore Active Directory objects and Exchange Mailboxes.
  • VeeamONE is easily able to pinpoint performance contention within your VM environment.
  • Veeam Backup and Recovery performance is particularly reliant on the performance capability of your backup infrastructure. Your network and disk resources WILL get taxed, so make sure to prepare properly. If your backup infrastructure is slow, your backups will be slow.
  • Backup and Recovery does have a wizard to make recommendations on how to build out the backup infrastructure for large environments, so you should have experts involved in the proper configuration.
  • Some backup/replication jobs do not process in one day. Example - We have some VMs that are quite large, so the processing of VMs can take several days when we change disk sizes.
  • Veeam literally saved our bacon when we were hit with a ransomware attack by allowing us to painlessly restore VMs.
  • In order to meet our retention goals, we have had to invest in our backup infrastructure, such as purchasing additional disk shelves for our SAN.
  • The speed at which we are able to recover VMs and files helps reduce the cost of downtime.
Veeam Availability Suite is hands down the best product compared to many other backup solutions. Most other programs don't include a means of monitoring your virtual infrastructure, so it's not worth comparing VeeamONE to common backup products. As for restoring files and VMs, Veeam does a comparable job to many backup products. Where Veeam Backup and Recovery really shines is in the availability to easily dig into any operating system and restore files. You don't need to be an expert in recovering tricky application-level objects such as with Active Directory, Exchange, SQL. With other applications, the recovery of these items is MUCH more complex.
Every time I've had to call into support, they are quick and on top of their game.

Yes

Did Veeam Data Platform live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Veeam Data Platform go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?

Yes

I think Veeam Availability Suite is suited for all sized environments. When you have a large environment, you need to make sure Backup and Recovery has the appropriate resources so backups aren't bogged down. Do not try to install Veeam Availability Suite when your environment is short on computing and networking resources.
