Overall Satisfaction with Vena Solutions

Vena Solutions is used across the entire organization for budgeting and forecasting cycles. It addresses not only Budget/FC tracking but managing headcounts/costs for the future. And we are able to project our exit run rates into next year, which is a key metric.
  • Familiar user interface. Everyone is familiar with Excel.
  • Flexibility. Creating simple or complex reports, and the ability to use Excel formulas.
  • Managing users and security levels.
  • Tracking tasks and status when the process is in "Play".
  • Policing the integrity of the cube data. There are times when zombie entries exist in the cube and are difficult to detect.
  • Automation. Our experience with template automation has not been good. It needs to be more reliable.
  • Integration with Power BI. The connector currently does not allow for automated scheduled refreshes from the PowerBI.com platform.
  • We have a clearer picture of costs and headcount.
  • More accurate forecast projections.
  • Managing cost impact of future hires.
Vena was chosen for its flexibility, capabilities, and current growth. The product is constantly being updated. User management was better. The Excel user interface was a major factor in user adoption. Hyperion seemed to be a new interface to an old product (Oracle).
Vena is well suited for smaller companies and is adaptable. Well suited for creating new reports, modifying the model, managing new users, and getting them up to speed. I think Vena is less appropriate when integrating non-financial data to explore new areas.
