Overall Satisfaction with WatchGuard Network Security

We use a pair of Watchguards in our data center, and we also deploy them for customers that we support and manage. For a few customers, we have WatchGuard Network Security configured as the main network perimeter firewalls behind a gateway from the ISP and also acting as the site-to-site VPN gateway and SSL remote access VPN for users when working from home.
  • URL filtering
  • SSL Remote access VPNs
  • Live logs when troubleshooting
  • Intrusion detection and prevention
  • High availability and failover
  • The reset process could be simplified, at the moment its a bit tricky
  • Provide switch ports for use in small offices
  • Force users to upgrade the firmware, security is of paramount importance these days
  • Once deployed the firewall just works
  • We had one that failed, and because it was covered, we got a replacement the following day.
  • The firmware update process takes less time, and it doesn't impact the business at all. We always update our out-of-hours, and we have never had issues.
For a number of years, we worked with Wickhill, and we always found them very helpful. Always happy to deal with the support guys at Wickhill.
It's very easy and straightforward to plan and deploy a Watchguard firewall. All models use the same GUI, and that makes it very easy and attractive. The online documentation is great. l learned everything l needed from the Watchguard support guides online. Once you know how firewalls work, WatchGuard Network Security has been designed for ease of use and quick deployment.
Like l said before, with other vendors, every time you deploy, you have to call support for help with the complicated licensing. I have never called Watchgaurd support for any help with licensing. It is very straightforward. Whatever features you license for during purchase, you simply download the same feature key and paste it to the box, save, and that is it. This process has benefited us a lot because we can deploy firewalls to clients as promised without any holdup because of licensing.
WatchGuard Network Security has the same features as some of the above, yet they will cost you far less than some of the mentioned firewalls. The deployment process is very easy compared to the above. I mentored and trained a few engineers, and in no time, they were able to scope, deploy and support WatchGuard Network Security without asking for help.

Depending on the requirements, you can get a model to suit any environment. As mentioned, we have them in our data center, and we deploy them on customer sites and branch offices. They have all the features found in some high-end firewalls, and yet they have a more affordable price tag. Licensing is very straightforward compared to some high-end ones where you have to call support every time you deploy to get help.
