Overall Satisfaction with WatchGuard Network Security
We used WatchGuard firewalls for site-to-site VPN (BO-VPN) and Mobile VPN (SSLVPN). We also use it for 1-1 NAT for our websites and email servers in addition to port forwarding. We leverage GEO Blocking in several of our policies and even set Brute Force Attack parameters for when the attacks are within the USA. There are two levels of features within WatchGuard firewalls, and we can do 90% of what we need with just the basic security suite. WatchGuard Network Security features are flexible enough to allow us to be able to customize our way around the other 10% that the Total Security Suite covers.
Pros
- Routing
- Security
- Authentication
Cons
- I would like to see a free option for MFA for device auth and VPN auth.
- The intuitive Web Interface reduces the entry to learning for new techs, so less training is required and inexperienced techs can figure out tasks if they understand basic networking and firewall functions.
- The licensing model for the hardware places them at the top of the list for mid-tier devices that are overpriced. They are barely competitive considering that you can't use a device for more than 5 years no matter what. And the security/maintenance costs are in addition to the hardware costs which are already high compared to other mid-tier brands.
We purchase our devices and maintenance renewals through guardsite which is owned by BlueAlly. We've been happy with BlueAlly and Virtual Graffiti, Inc before them.
WatchGuard Network Security offers a central management system which is very beneficial to MSPs and Large enterprises. For Small and Medium companies, there web UI is all you need to manage one or two devices and is less complicated than their management system.
We have not seen the benefits as a small business to leverage their cloud offerings.
Our tech had previous experience with WatchGuard Network Security and the Fortinet devices we were using weren't functioning to the standards we needed them to. As costs have increased with WatchGuard Network Security and across the board, we are looking for a different vendor from WatchGuard Network Security at renewal. WatchGuard Network Security offers a great product, but it costs.
