Overall Satisfaction with WordPress

We run 5 different websites on WordPress, because it is the easiest and most robust system we've found for doing so. The endless plugins allow us to easily add virtually any functionality we want, without needing to hire a custom coder to create it. So much better than our experience with Drupal!

Pros

  • Ease of use
  • Extensive customizations available through plugins
  • Massive market share means almost universal compatibility

Cons

  • Site slows down when using multiple plugins
  • Updates required very frequently, which sometimes break the site
  • New block interface is confusing for old-school users
  • We can deploy a website with minimal effort
  • We can customize functionality without adding staff or contractors
  • Our sites are SEO friendly without added work
For the most part it's user friendly. Some things are not. The new block editor is a challenge for those of us who have been using the old editor for so many years. The Classic Editor plugin is a nice idea, but it creates a conflict on our site which causes other problems.
In our experience, Drupal is so much hard to use and customize. Their upgrade path is almost nonexistent. We've had such a hard time over the years working to try and keep using and upgrading and updating Drupal, but we're SO DONE with it. We have decided to leave Drupal forever, and move that one remaining site to WordPress.

Whether you just want the simplest blog or 1-page site...or a massive ecommerce site with elearning capabilities and 10s of thousands of users, WordPress fits the bill! We've used it for all sorts of scenarios, and don't see any reason to stop using it or switch to a different platform.
