Overall Satisfaction with Workato

Useful for simple, small to moderate-sized workflow-oriented integrations.
  • Rapid development
  • Highly available Technical Support
  • Prebuilt recipes
  • Cannot handle large, complex enterprise integrations
  • Timeouts if you try to push a lot of data through
  • Cannot cache large datasets
  • Error tracing and remediation difficult
  • Not designed for ETL, EDI or Enterprise Application Integration (EAI)
  • If a prebuilt recipe is not available, difficult for non-technical people to create
  • Not a no-code solution by any means
  • Issues with data corruption from OPAs in same group but different servers (OPA per step vs OPA per recipe is the cause, apparently)
  • Very responsive technical support
  • Cannot use since it cannot handle the large, complex integrations we develop
Workato is useful for the rapid development of simple workflow-oriented integrations. It was not designed for large, enterprise integrations like Boomi. Their target audiences and target use cases overlap in some areas, but there are very important differences. We selected Boomi for the large-scale, complex integrations where we have to process large datasets. Workato is used by the less technical users who need to develop simple integrations for themselves. Anything beyond the prebuilt recipes often requires more advanced technical support from developers as this product is not truly a no-code solution.

For simple, low data volume integrations where a prebuilt recipe is available, it can be used by Data Analysts, Business Analysts, or power users in finance or other departments to build simple integrations or connect to APIs.

Using Workato

1 - Data Analysts, Business Intelligence Analysts
1 - To build recipes from scratch or to substantially modify existing recipes takes assistance from an integration developer
  • Simple, low volume real-time integrations
  • Cases where prebuilt recipe already exists
  • Using only for limited, simple integrations
  • There are no plans to continue future use
We need to develop Enterprise Application Integrations and Workato was not designed for this

Evaluating Workato and Competitors

  • Product Features
We are using it for limited, simple, low volume scenarios for less technical users who have use cases that happen to match prebuilt recipes.
We would not change our evaluation and selection process

Workato Implementation

We discovered that we could not use Workato for our more complex, large enterprise integrations. It was useful for simple workflows that matched the prebuilt recipes.
Change management was minimal - Change management was not relevant
  • Learning curve steeper than anticipated
  • For use cases outside the prebuilt recipes, needed to involve trained developers

Workato Support

24/7 support is very responsive. They are not necessarily highly experienced technical providers, but they can solve simple problems and answer basic questions well. They can escalate more complex problems in many cases if the issues are outside their level of technical skill.
ProsCons
Quick Resolution
Good followup
Problems get solved
Kept well informed
Immediate help available
Support cares about my success
Quick Initial Response
Escalation required
No premium support. In house developers are capable of supporting our organization.
We had questions about product limitations and they were able to provide detailed information to us in the form of a pdf that was quite useful.

Using Workato

Due to prebuilt recipes, Workato is easy to learn and use for non-technical users if their use case fits the existing recipes. It is not easy for non-technical users to create, modify, debug or maintain complex integrations that are outside the prebuilt recipes.
ProsCons
Easy to use
Do not like to use
Requires technical support
Inconsistent
Slow to learn
Cumbersome
Lots to learn
  • Prebuilt recipes
  • Creating new integrations from scratch
