Overall Satisfaction with Zoom
We use Zoom for a couple of situations at our institution. As an educational institution, of course, our primary use of Zoom is in the classroom. We use Zoom for courses that are exclusively online. This allows our students to participate synchronously from anywhere. We also use it as a backup for classes that are canceled due to weather. Being in Michigan, this happens a few times per year. Beyond the classroom, we use Zoom for staff to communicate internally and externally.
- Video quality.
- Audio quality.
- Understanding the needs of its users.
- Zoom has grown up, and it's time to start seeing better integrations, especially with Google.
- As Zoom grows, I feel like they are still a bit understaffed. It takes a bit longer than it should take to get responses.
- The chat app is good, but it could use some attention to make it more solid.
- Fewer missed classes due to weather.
- Better teacher/student interaction.
- Reduced travel costs.
As of this writing [this review], we are not using Zoom Rooms. We anticipate beginning a pilot in the coming weeks.
- Skype, GoToMeeting, Fuze, Cisco Webex Room Series (formerly Cisco Spark Room Series) and Google Hangouts
At the end of the day, it came down to how user-friendly the tool was and how stable the connection was. I'm sorry to the competition, but no one else in the field can touch Zoom on connection stability. The connections are solid which results in a "normal" interaction between parties involved. Cisco Webex is especially overrated, people need to stop buying WebEx just because "everyone else uses it."
