Having used Magento and Joomla in the past to manage websites, the KalioCommerce platform allows access to much deeper levels of the platform to better customize it for our needs. In addition, the platform is much more robust, able to handle complex, huge product catalogs, and …
We need to do a lot of quotes, and sometimes customers call and want to pay. Adobe Commerce (Magento) did not let you keep saved quotes, so you had to put people on hold whilst you started making the order from scratch rather than just taking payment, which was very annoying.
KalioCommerce is a good choice for mid market companies. IT support required would depend on your particular implementation, of course, but in our case our ecommerce team working with Kalio is able to deal with 95% of the work
Magento Commerce Cloud allows us to develop our own custom solutions for problems that we need solved.
Magento Commerce Cloud can also be integrated with many of the third part vendors that we use. This has made many implementations go very smoothly and tends to be much quicker than developing our own custom solution.
There are many features available right out of the box. Many of them we have not implemented yet, but it is great to have them available to us when we are ready.
The platform is difficult to tune and can be slow. Even with expensive best in class hardware the platform performance can be an issue. Even with caching poor coding can lead to unacceptable performance and user experiences.
The total cost of ownership for the platform can be quite high as a great deal of technical expertise is required to modify, develop, troubleshoot and maintain the platform. The costs of initial development are only a down payment on what a Magento store will cost. For mid size companies with substantial web revenues this can be overcome for smaller businesses the total cost of ownership may be prohibitive.
Security of the platform can be an issue. Magento is often targeted by hackers and much of the security is the responsibility of the store owner.
Because Kalio has a growing client base, I find them a bit understaffed. The speed at which our company was growing, we needed to lean on them more, but they weren't always able to deliver because of the sheer volume of requests compared to their staff.
It's difficult to physically write code within the space they have provided. I find that I have to copy and paste the code into a different text editor to read it better.
It has the best overall price point. It is super cheap and the connection between our ERP system is unmatched by any other Ecommerce sites we have talked with. We honestly can't get this level of complex customization without having to spend a fortune somewhere else. It is able to do everything we need it to do for the right price.
KalioCommerce is not simply a software solution, it's an entire organization focused on helping our business grow and improve. They are an extension of my eCommerce team, and their insights and support help us move quicker in an ever changing field. That, in combination with a platform that has proven to be flexible, dependable and intuitive makes renewing a no-brainer.
At its core, Adobe Commerce is still Magento, and Magento has a steep learning curve. Adding to the complexity, the cloud environment is managed by Adobe, so you have to stick with its infrastructure. This means you need experienced developers to lead junior ones; otherwise, the development process can become a disaster. However, its customization capabilities are virtually limitless, allowing you to adapt the platform to almost any use case imaginable.
Magento Commerce was previously put into place and used right when I came onboard. We used it for quite some time, but ultimately the need for our company's specific customizations became too difficult to manage during core updates. We specifically needed a more specialized way of calculating shipping, connecting with our 3PL's inventory API, managing specialized discounts and codes, and even the way we showcased information on the product pages.
Having used Magento and Joomla in the past to manage websites, the KalioCommerce platform allows access to much deeper levels of the platform to better customize it for our needs. In addition, the platform is much more robust, able to handle complex, huge product catalogs, and is more flexible in terms of integration with other tools and services.
The scalability of Magento is extremely useful for large scale e-commerce websites with large amounts of products, making it easy to grow quickly.
The fact that Magento has many great features standard in the base software is a plus for stores that don't need a lot, meaning less work to get up and running.
Magento can be time consuming to get set up if you need a lot of specialty customization as it does require experienced developers, this can be much more expensive vs. other options.
