Pros

  • Allows non-technical staff to author and publish content by focusing on the content itself and the needs of a given campaign instead of technical implementations.
  • Content workflows allow varying degrees of complexity for content review and quality assurance before providing approvals on any piece before going live.
  • Development teams can build very robust and complex component for handling virtually all posible needs: from integrating back-end web services to UI Widgets for content authoring; from multisite suites to multi-language components, CQ can handle it all thanks to the power of Java and the flexibility of Sling and JCR.
  • Easy to scale for high-traffic sites and thanks to the Publisher/Dispatcher infrastructure, very flexible for caching and load balancing.

  • Superb Gallery Management & Layouts
  • Add anything with just a drag of your favorite content block. There are more than 300 pre-built content blocks in the PageBuilder which allows you to build any kind of website you want.

Cons

  • The move to the new interface for authoring is drastically different from the previous interface. Moving has been difficult.
  • Since it is so customizable, a talented web dev team is needed to make all the parts.
  • It is not easy to tell if the page is live or draft in the new interface.
  • Integration with non-Adobe marketing automation tools is very difficult.

  • Pixpa has a great interface for managing the content on website. But still it has further scope for improvement.
  • Another thing which seems to be missing is a mobile version of the app. It is currently available only for desktop. But they promised a mobile version soon.

Adobe CQ has training classes that you can be in or watch to get a better understanding. They have some of the best customer support so if you run into any problems you can just contact them put a ticket in and they will fix it or work with you to fix the problem or issue you are running into.

Usability

I personally feel that AEM is very intuitive to use from an authoring standpoint. The entire CMS was engineered around the author. Everything about AEM is geared to helping authors generate and maintain content. There are ways that tool tips can be customized so that any individual could simply hover over and be guided step by step on how to author web content

Implementation

Depending on your individual needs, It is really quite simple to create an authoring experience for a website that looks really good. I have been part of many implementations and many teams and have seen many projects that were super successful and others that were not implemented well. AEM has room for a lot of flexibility in the implementation process compared to other CMS like SharePoint

Alternatives Considered

AEM exceeds WordPress on customizability. It is the backbone for the many modules and APIs we need to run our business.

I have previously used Wix and Squarespace to build my photography and design portfolio. But I think the way Pixpa portrays my photographs and designs is by far the best in the industry. Pixpa's primary focus revolves around showcasing my photographs and designs, and I see it by far the best in the industry. Moreover, my website loads pretty fast, and this acts as an advantage for them, since most of top website builders are struggling with slower site speed. Pixpa has a very easy interface and compelling templates, better than Squarespace and Wix (I think) along with pre-built content blocks which I can use to build any kind of custom page with the help of their awesome drag-and-drop PageBuilder tool. This saves a lot of my time.

Return on Investment

  • AEM implementation increased employee efficiency as users can drag and drop components and do in place editing. If you have a clear use case for targeting you can achieve those effectively.

  • I had set up a custom editions site (customeditions.letternote.com) for my corporate gifting e-commerce business, LetterNote. I created the site using Pixpa's DIY builder with a purpose of showcasing our custom products and gain impressions from our target market. And thanks to Pixpa for their wonderful SEO capabilities and beautiful layouts that we had almost increased our sales by nearly 30%.
  • The pricing for which they provide such a wonderful platform is very pocket friendly and I actually had more returns than I invested in the product.
