Adobe Marketing Cloud

If you have a rather large budget and/or several clients to take advantage of the AMC, you would likely benefit from its all-in-one solutions. There are a myriad of excellent tools for digital marketing professionals to take advantage of within the suite, and creating a campaign becomes much more manageable for collaboration and execution through to reporting thanks to the suite's vertically integrated nature.

WordPress

Wordpress is a CMS that adapts to everything. You can create complex and beautiful websites on any topic or for any purpose. If you have programming knowledge, you can increase your capabilities even more, creating custom plugins with the functions you need specifically. I would not recommend it for small sites with static information as it is usually a bit heavy.

Pros

  • End-to-end digital marketing suite gives you all the tools you need to create, strategize, execute and track a digital campaign.
  • The Experience Manager is great for managing campaign assets and group collaboration.
  • Targeting has been solid to reach audiences with content that is personalized to their interests.
  • Adobe Analytics has proven to be quite competitive in showcasing our ROI to clients.

  • The strongest point of Wordpress is to develop professional sites in a short time, without the need to know complicated programming languages. It also has an extensive free documentation available on the web and has the largest community of users worldwide.
  • The control panel is large and intuitive to manage new pages, menus or any detail of the web.
  • The integration with mobile devices is total, it can be visualized perfectly in any type of device, it is something totally fundamental and mandatory in these times.

Cons

  • More training videos on updates.

  • While one of the strengths of WordPress is the ability to change your site without coding, the ability to manually edit core files can be a weakness, as users can break the site without knowing what they are doing. However, there is plenty of online help so you can avoid this.
  • Not all WordPress themes and plugins work as intended or play nicely together. This may not be because of WordPress itself, but can cause issues. It pays to do some research before installing something new.
  • An issue which is less common now is pasting content from Word and having strange characters appear when the post is published. Recent updates seem to have solved that problem, but if you are running an older version of the software, it's worth upgrading. Upgrading is also good for security.

Although a powerful tool, Google Analytics has been catching up in capabilities and is much simpler to use.As analytics move to the spotlight, more sections in a company want to have access to it. However, creating straightforward reports/dashboards and sharing them with different groups is not a strength of Adobe Marketing Cloud.

As we become ever more proficient and thorough with our primary CMS — Hannon Hill's Cascade Server — we may begin to consider bringing these satellite blogs into the single product fold. Should that day come, we would no longer need WordPress. Of course, the switch would mean massive SEO problems and a steep learning curve for many users. A staff our size — one designer / developer, one administrative content manager, one content writer, and a former jack-of-all trades oldhead web guy who now fancies himself an expert at digital marketing — might not be able to handle that migration.Having our blogs separate and distinct from our primary web server has proved successful to date. Their separation makes good sense for the niche audiences each academic program requires. And their shared relationships (via links, social media crossovers and XML feeds) only strengthens our brand by showing just how diverse our offerings are.

I give this rating because the variety of options out there are pretty endless. They range from novice use all the way to advance, it is tailored for everyone which is why it makes it the number one CMS being used on the internet today.

Anyone can visit WordPress.org and download a fully functional copy of WordPress free of charge. Additionally, WordPress is offered to users as open-source software, which means that anyone can customize the code to create new applications and make these available to other WordPress users.

WordPress itself only has community service so your experience will depend on where you turn. Online, through forums and community boards, support is rudimentary but effective. You can easily turn to your local community and find exceptional individuals who know and use WordPress regularly for more advanced, inexpensive, support. I'm rating this less than 10 because of the lack of any formal support provided by a company.

Varies by the person providing training. High marks as it's incredibly easy to find experienced individuals in your community to provide training on any aspect of WordPress from content marketing, SEO, plugin development, theme design, etc. Less than 10 though as the training is community based and expectations for a session you find may fall short.

Alternatives Considered

We really have not evaluated any other products. I have used the Adobe products in the past and realized that the costs of purchasing the individual programs would have been too much for our organization. Using the cloud gives us tools we never thought we would be able top have access to.

We selected WordPress because of the community, flexibility, and cost. With the main reason being the community and support system that exists. This means we can find talent to make custom plugins, customize themes, and maintain the website easily and on a reasonable budget

WordPress is completely scalable. You can get started immediately with a very simple "out-of-the box" WordPress installation and then add whatever functionality you need as and when you need it, and continue expanding. Often we will create various WordPress sites on the same domain to handle different aspects of our strategy (e.g. one site for the sales pages, product information and/or a marketing blog, another for delivering products securely through a private membership site, and another for running an affiliate program or other application), and then ties all of these sites together using a common theme and links on each of the site's menus.Additionally, WordPress offers a multisite function that allows organizations and institutions to manage networks of sites managed by separate individual site owners, but centrally administered by the parent organization. You can also expand WordPress into a social networking or community site, forums, etc.The same scalability applies to web design. You can start with a simple design and then scale things up to display sites with amazing visual features, including animations and video effects, sliding images and animated product image galleries, elements that appear and fade from visitor browsers, etc.The scaling possibilities of WordPress are truly endless.

Return on Investment

  • Provides a substantial savings in software costs.
  • Decreases time spent on projects.
  • Reduces the chance for inconsistency and errors.
Richard Longo profile photo
  • Our customers' ROI has been excellent. The local businesses we serve are able to be found by the business name and generally rank well for a variety of local search terms. We are also able to build out landing pages quickly and easily and then marry them to a variety of direct mail, social media, and PPC campaigns.
