This is definitely a tool for enterprises. You need to have a certain level of complexity before you pay for this tool. You should have multiple funnels, websites, or an insane amount of content. If you are involved in ecommerce, this is a worthwhile investment. However, if you have a smaller site, little content, only a single funnel, or don't sell anything online, this is a much less worthwhile tool for you.

I believe WordPress is well suited for all websites, except those of major corporations. In my estimation, if you have fewer than 500 employees your website should be on WordPress. The other exception to this rule is if you are a one- or two-man shop and have no technical aptitude. In that case you may want to use a competing CMS software package that is easier to learn.

Pros

Adobe Marketing Cloud

  • Content Analysis - Between the Pages report and the participation metrics which show what percentage of conversions a page was involved with, you get an excellent analysis of what content is important and effective, and what is not. With the ability to add up to ten metrics side by side, drill downs, and power tools like Ad Hoc Analysis, you will know exactly where you need better content.
  • Pathing - Adobe Analytics captures every single path of every single visit of every single visitor and puts it at your fingertips. There are tools to aggregate common paths so you find out how frequent they are, lots of good page flow reports, and tools to pick out specific paths that will keep you from being overwhelmed. This has been absolutely invaluable to us as we have learned about how our customers are using our sites and which paths are leading to exits rather than converions.
  • Customization - There are so many custom metrics and dimensions you can add and you can create segments based on all of them, along with the out of the box metrics and dimensions. You truly get an implementation that is specific to your company, your needs, your strategy, and your site.

WordPress

  • Offers easy-to-use back end management of content for non-technical users, making updating basic content achievable without contracting a developer.
  • Offers a wide variety of plug-able features to expand functionality without adding bloat allowing a wide range of custom applications without unnecessary or unneeded features crowding the system.
  • Offers basic on-page SEO optimization out of the box with little or no configuration allowing site owners to focus on their content.
  • Offers a wide variety of theme options that can be used without the need for a designer or developer, but also provide a lot of flexibility to creat unique, custom solutions as well.

Cons

Adobe Marketing Cloud

  • The Workspaces tool is nice, but not as functional as Ad Hoc Analysis. I think some power has been sacrificed for ease of use.
  • To get this power, you will need a dedicated implementation developer and you will need to train up your own developers on how to maintain and update the tool. I think the power of analysis you get out of the tool is 100% worth the development resources required (by basing your decisions on good data, you'll save development resources in the long run), but you should be aware of this.
  • I think you should be able to stack segments in Ad Hoc Analysis as you can in the main UI.

WordPress

  • WordPress has been improving their framework since the beginning of development. If I would say that WordPress has room for improvement, it would be giving itself the ability to host plugins on a remote location to call functions from so that the use of many plugins won't disrupt the site's load speed times, which effects the overall experience of the site's users.
  • I think that WordPress can expand on some of their customization features to allow a simpler, faster way of getting your brand in the framework. Though this is capable through plugins that are out there, I think WordPress could alleviate the use of a lot of plugins if they incorporate some of the major used plugins features within the framework itself.
  • I think that WordPress can improve on the ease of use in connecting their members management functionality with outside source software that companies may be offering as a SaaS to their customers, and using WordPress as their main site that stores the sales information and sign-up features.

Although a powerful tool, Google Analytics has been catching up in capabilities and is much simpler to use.As analytics move to the spotlight, more sections in a company want to have access to it. However, creating straightforward reports/dashboards and sharing them with different groups is not a strength of Adobe Marketing Cloud.

As time goes on, websites will become less focused on paged content and more immersive. At the same time, the need for security will only go up. While WordPress has served the web community well for over 11 years, it's probably time to look for other better platforms.

I think that many people can use WordPress easily but not everyone is able to. WordPress is still be a little overwhelming for some. Everyday, WordPress is improving it's usability and that's what makes it such a great platform to use for business and personal websites. I think serious business owners will take the time to learn to use it

Anyone can visit WordPress.org and download a fully functional copy of WordPress free of charge. Additionally, WordPress is offered to users as open-source software, which means that anyone can customize the code to create new applications and make these available to other WordPress users.

Mostly, any performance issues have to do with using too many plugins and these can sometimes slow down the overall performance of your site. It is very tempting to start adding lots of plugins to your WordPress site, however, as there are thousands of great plugins to choose from and so many of them help you do amazing things on your site.If you begin to notice performance issues with your WordPress site (e.g. pages being slow to load), there are ways to optimize the performance of your site, but this requires learning the process. WordPress users can learn how to optimize their WordPress sites by downloading the WPTrainMe WordPress training plugin (WPTrainMe.com) and going through the detailed step-by-step WordPress optimization tutorials.

I give this rating, which I believe to be a great rating for a community based support system that's surrounding it. Most platforms and products have their own, and as WordPress does have their own team that help here and there, a lot of it's handled by community involvement with dedicated users who are experts with the system who love to help people.

Alternatives Considered

Adobe Marketing Cloud

As an agency, we are vendor agnostic so we typically recommend a tool based on our client's specific needs. Both Google Analytics 360 and Adobe Marketing Cloud are powerful tools, but if a client does not have the appropriate organizational pre-requisites to leverage the outputs, they should not invest in either and focus on that.

While both platforms are great. WordPress SEO ability far surpasses Squarespace. Squarespace needs to correct their issue with allowing Google to index tags.

WordPress is completely scalable. You can get started immediately with a very simple "out-of-the box" WordPress installation and then add whatever functionality you need as and when you need it, and continue expanding. Often we will create various WordPress sites on the same domain to handle different aspects of our strategy (e.g. one site for the sales pages, product information and/or a marketing blog, another for delivering products securely through a private membership site, and another for running an affiliate program or other application), and then ties all of these sites together using a common theme and links on each of the site's menus.Additionally, WordPress offers a multisite function that allows organizations and institutions to manage networks of sites managed by separate individual site owners, but centrally administered by the parent organization. You can also expand WordPress into a social networking or community site, forums, etc.The same scalability applies to web design. You can start with a simple design and then scale things up to display sites with amazing visual features, including animations and video effects, sliding images and animated product image galleries, elements that appear and fade from visitor browsers, etc.The scaling possibilities of WordPress are truly endless.

Return on Investment

Adobe Marketing Cloud

  • As an agency, we typically see the highest return with clients that are more sophisticated and that have the ability to invest in multiple components, as well as have the internal resources and processes to act on the data and insights.
  • I've also seen less sophisticated clients invest in one or two components without having a deep understanding of how to use them or the expertise to use them efficiently to have a significant business impact.

  • Our customers' ROI has been excellent. The local businesses we serve are able to be found by the business name and generally rank well for a variety of local search terms. We are also able to build out landing pages quickly and easily and then marry them to a variety of direct mail, social media, and PPC campaigns.
