Aha!

Well-suited for strategic release planning and internal stakeholder communication. I would not recommend it for day to day task tracking (although I don't think its intended to be used for that).

Trello

It is excellent for multiple groups or users with multiple activities at any one time, or for a single user wanting to have several project sections going on at any one time. It enables the user to keep things separate but all contained within a single portal, but it can become quite cumbersome relatively quickly. The bigger the organisation, the more consideration needs to be given to how exactly Trello is used to give the users the best experience, or even if multiple instances of the platform is necessary.

Pros

  • Provides an easy to understand visual for upcoming releases and what is included.
  • Makes it easy for Product Managers to interact directly with users via the Idea Bank portal.
  • Provides a way to link dependencies and related features to help understand expected feature releases.

  • To organize an event. You can describe, step by step, all the work to have an event under control, with the responsibility of each worker. It shows the progress or stagnation of each person and can attend any difficulty in time.
  • To assign research guidelines to journalists. The subject is assigned, the readings that must be consulted, the interviews are planned and a deadline for delivery is given. With Trello, the journalist indicates the progress of each step.
  • Organize the tasks of the audiovisual production team. Once the work topic is defined, the activities that must be fulfilled for each phase of the audiovisual production are described, with dates of deployment, production, and final delivery.

Cons

  • Policing the idea bank to make sure ideas are specific and representative of a single idea is a manual task.
  • There are a lot of times when I save and close an item and it just disappears from my current view. This is usually due to user error, it just seems too easy to make those errors all too often. I wish I was warned if I'm about to save (or close) a record that is going to disappear from my current view.
  • I wish there was easy to find, approachable training material to teach me how to use parts of the system that I don't even look at today (such as Personnas)

  • Trello works by boards, which sometimes makes it difficult to work when we needed, for example, global labels. On each board, you must define and/or repeat your labels specifically.
  • We use it for small projects because its boards are limited when it comes to the management of many people or very large projects.

It does everything we need it to do to manage users and content as it progresses, but could do with more improvements too such as notifications or remote notifications. We have no reason to move for now!

The functionality is there, but it's intimidating to learn.

There aren't many features to Trello, but that is why it is so intuitive and easy to use.

Support always answered in 24 hours for any inquiry-- a reasonable timeframe for most of our requests. The PM team participated actively in supporting their features, keeping them close to the product.

For our small business, getting a few of us started well on Trello was the key, I think. As long as a couple of us were really comfortable with the interface, we could lead others and help them with any questions. From now on, anyone who works with us just naturally uses Trello for information sharing - it's just part of what we do.

Alternatives Considered

Best, power-user tool for product management

They are both task managers, but Asana seemed less friendly to me than Trello. Your minimalist design is aesthetically more attractive, besides giving rise to a simpler and simpler interface to use. It is possible to add widgets to the home screen. These allow more flexibility to view information at once, without the need to open the application. There is an application available for tablets. This will provide a better user experience than using an application designed exclusively to be used on a phone

Return on Investment

  • Very helpful separating the concerns of our product and engineering teams. Both feel notably more productive working in their "own" tools (aka aha and jira)

  • Consistency in process (by using templates)
  • More transparency with client
  • Faster project completion rates - clear understanding of what's next.
  • Improved team/client communication.
  • Concentration of all project assets on one project board.
