Apple iCloud

iCloud is at its best when a single user has multiple devices and uses the same apps on all or most of those devices. Keynote, Pages, IA Writer, MindNode, and other "fully integrated with iCloud" apps are great examples of how easy it can be.It's less compelling when multiple users need a shared file repository — we just use Dropbox in that situation, and it's a good compliment. It's also less valuable when the apps being used don't directly integrate with iCloud. The valuable cross-OS integration when switching from Mac to iOS and back is much clunkier in those situations. Kick the tires using the free iCloud features before depending too heavily on it.

It's a wonderful asset to have when you lose your original Word doc, etc. so you can still edit a document (and not have to start from ground zero). That feature alone is why I bought this product and why I will continue to recommend.

Pros

Apple iCloud

  • Backup of login credentials with KeyChain works particularly well. No other competitor can match the fully integrated nature of iCloud because Apple owns the operating system.
  • Seamless syncing with iCloud Backup works to a decent degree. Competitors like Dropbox are catching up, but iCloud comes out of the box and ready to go on new Apple devices, so it saves time for IT.
  • iCloud contacts helps with organization-wide syncing of contacts.

  • PDFelement provides the same powerful features as Adobe Acrobat, but the interface is easy to learn and use. The product is extremely intuitive, which saves our clients from becoming frustrated as they learn the product.
  • PDFelement Pro's ability to create fillable forms with the click of one button is one of our clients favorite features. I was impressed at how accurately PDFelement performed this task and the ease with which these fields can be edited, if needed.
  • Security is more important than ever these days and PDFelement provides the encryption and permissions to protect documents quickly and easily. I especially like the batch encrypt feature, this makes it easy to protect multiple files with the same password.
  • PDFelement makes it easy to extract the data from form fields. This is a huge plus for our clients.

Cons

Apple iCloud

  • There's lack of configuration options for most iCloud services. You cannot tune things to your IT department's requirements often.
  • It would be nice to have unlimited iCloud Backup by default across all devices.
  • iCloud Mail needs improvement of UI/UX.

It's easy, simple and cost-effective as compared to other cloud backup solutions that are being offered today. You get 5 Gb free to start and it's only $1 to upgrade to 50 Gb! Can't beat that when you can download iCloud from any platform to back up all your documents, pictures and music.

I am giving iCloud this rating because even though I do not like it, it is still an excellent platform. It is very secure, relatively fast and it does work. For a tech-savvy user, iCloud would be an ideal choice. I do not like the fact that iCloud locks your device to your personal iCloud, and I would prefer if this was optional.

Alternatives Considered

Apple iCloud

For a Mac user in a Mac-only shop, iCloud is by far the best of breed. If your company has a mix of Mac and Windows users, it will not be the right primary tool (go to Google Drive for that). iCloud is a necessary and built-in part of a Mac user's experience and so will function well for an individual to keep their devices synchronized, but when interacting with non-Mac users, will not be the primary team tool for collaboration.

Price was the only factor that drove me to look at other PDF editing software options. I was very pleased to find PDFelement, as it usually met or exceeded the capability of Adobe Acrobat. Obviously, as a long-time user to Acrobat, there is the tendency to become frustrated with a new command structure or process, but I found for the most basic commands this was not so difficult. As indicated already, there are certainly some areas that still need improving with PDFelement, ut this has not stopped me from recommending this option as a clear winner for an affordable, and command-rich PDF editor.

  • For me, it's been very important to me that my business as a pet sitter and dog walker not leave a negative footprint on the environment. To that end, it's been very important that i'm able to do as much paperwork as possible without using paper. PDFelement is wonderful at helping me meet those goals.
