Canto is a great option for creative teams who want to move their files (graphics, raw images, edited images, PDFs, documents, etc.) off of an organization's server. It can be an incredible warehouse of cloud storage for old versions of files as well as creating a one-stop-shop for all master versions of files. Canto is also helpful for IT teams who want to reduce server load on their websites. It is a great third-party option if you have the capabilities to either utilize an API connection or to train website content admins on uploading files here. You can also utilize some of their other tools for creatives to create interactive style guides for an organization's branding. It is a robust digital asset management platform, where the only exception might be housing/sharing video content.

Pros: I like that we can easily add products and how simple it is for our static products. It's easy to add users, products and cost centers. The approval process for products is easy and intuitive. It's a localized resource that our users can use.Cons: The back end of the product is fairly slow. It takes a long time to add products because of how slow it is at times. The reporting for the portal could be better. I know the Business Intelligence feature was created to solve reporting.Also sometimes we experience difficulty with customizable products. I feel like there's more options to build this out more based on the users needs.Overall: It's a localized place where users can find collateral and promotional items.

Pros

Canto

  • Canto consistently updates it's software, so they're always making it better and more efficient, user-friendly, etc.
  • Provides a portal option that helps you control how your images are being displayed to users, which images can be seen and gives an aesthetic version for employees.
  • Canto is very responsive to support requests, ticket submissions, etc., and will work with you until your problem is resolved.
  • There's no size limit on files that you can upload.
  • It works fairly quickly when uploading images.

  • The best part of MarcomCentral is its flexibility to solve many unique problems for our customers. It gives us the ability to build solutions that truly allow our customers to operate more efficiently.
  • The best admin feature that I use all day, every day, is the Bulk Operations feature. This allows me to manage entire portals through spreadsheets allowing me to create and manage massive amounts of products, users, and images very efficiently.
  • The reporting feature is second to none as well. Our most successful customers are paying close attention to the ordering history of their products. This allows them to fight obsolescence and focus on the products that their teams or customers are truly using.

  • The option to make a single file downloadable or not. We have some highly sensitive files and some we don't want people to be able to download but be able to look at. So it would be nice if we could make a single file not downloadable. They do have other options like terms of use or watermarks but it [would] be nice if that was a feature. You could do this but only in bulk, so you'd have to make all files not downloadable.
  • Their style guide option - being able to use a single image for the style guide instead of the whole folder or file.
  • I think the different language option could be built out a little better.

We are finally able to organize our assets well and maintain governance over all of our digital assets. It has eliminated time difference issues and is equipping people within our company with a lot of content for them to use and push.

It is extremely easy to use as long as descriptions and tags are organized. Just type what you are looking for and it will pop up. We have team members who are not very high tech be able to learn it within a day. Very intuitive and user-friendly for the whole company.

I've had to reach out to support only the one time, but they were friendly, kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. They were able to address my issue and solve my problem on one phone call, and set up a way to ensure the issue would not happen again. Honestly, their support is one of the main reasons I would suggest this platform.

We should have planned and identified ingest and content librarian during transfer and launch. Our admins wear other hats and accountability and getting to planned milestones lagged a bit due to this.

The decision wasn't really up to me; it was up to our team's photographer. I actually wanted to use Google Drive initially, just because I thought it would be the easiest option and would integrate well with what we already use, but I have been pleasantly surprised by how easy Canto is to use. I've been very pleased with it.

The thing I love most about this software is how easy it is to use. For someone not super-tech-savvy, it is so easy to set up products and display them in the catalog. It's user-friendly for our employees and customers too. They can easily navigate to whatever item they need without any issues!

  • As of right now, we are still in the process of transitioning so I do not know any details on overall business effectiveness or any hard numbers. But as of now it seems very capable of handling the amount of information my company holds.
  • I think it is an amazing perk that you can literally upload any type of file on Canto, and then you can open any type of file on Canto as well. It is amazing to find a product that lets you open and view CAD or DWG files without having the actual program!
  • The idea behind having our information more at everyone's fingertips and helping productivity has boosted moral and people are optimistic.
