Clearbit is great for companies with large sales teams who focus on high touch prospecting. The time saved by not having to search a prospect's LinkedIn profile, but simply see data in the CRM is awesome. On the other hand, Clearbit may not be as ideal in a company where sales are very transactional

Appropriate: We will use Pitchbook, for example, when we need to screen for companies in a certain sector or when a keyword gets a priced funding round (Seed, Series A, B, C). Screening of deal as a way to benchmark prices of potential investments Screening of potential LPs based on past investments Challenging: Quickly pull analyst commentary on certian companies/events. consensus sales or prices Analyse non venture deals. for example in biotech, licensing deals are key ways to create value and always analysed in detailed. We will probabaly use dealbook or Cortellis for this

Pros
HubSpot
  • The phone numbers are extremely accurate, so our sales team isn't wasting time calling 800 numbers or being transferred.
  • ClearBit mapping is great because there are 80 fields that map and an API.
  • We can build out our leads and contacts extremely faster because of the simplicity of the program.

Cons
HubSpot
  • The data Clearbit provides is good, but it doesn't compare to some competitors. While you can find a large range of data, other providers have more clean data.
  • The Google Sheets add-on is not as comprehensive. It would be nice if you could search for both prospect emails and numbers there.
  • Clearbit provides direct dials, but again it's not as accurate as other services.

  • The price is insane. Most of their competitors are free, and those that aren't are less than 5% the price of PitchBook.
  • The excel plugin is incredibly complicated and the formula builder function is awful. You cannot search easily to find formulas for things you don't already know (unless you ask support)
  • The UI is old, and they are slow to innovate. They need to add in a new incredible feature in the next year or two or my firm might move on, as it's getting harder to justify the price when competitors get better every year (signalnfx!) and PitchBook doesn't.

HubSpot
The majority of the time it provides quick, accessible and easy to use information about the company and contact information. This has really helped us to personalise our outreach while also making it faster to prospect accounts. I don't give it a ten as this information can be inaccurate. Including the LinkedIn link which sometimes re-directs to old LinkedIn accounts, or just the wrong one. This seems to be caused by not updating the information regularly enough (just a feeling, no evidence)

Usability
HubSpot
Clearbit is very easy to use. Any new joiner can self-onboard, self-learn in matter of hours, if not minutes. Its integration feature within Hubspot and also with Salesforce makes it easy for marketing team to use it every day. The customer support team is also very responsive and helpful to resolve issues within few days

PitchBook
I rely on PitchBook when researching potential investments, particularly in the tech and AI space. It’s an excellent tool for early-stage market analysis and becomes especially valuable when evaluating private or emerging startups. PitchBook provides all the essential company details—financials, funding history, valuations—which are critical for my work as an investment professional. The three points I took out is for the lack of market analysis framework and the lack of P&L data.

Support Rating
HubSpot
The team has been extremely helpful and works with us one on one with issues we come across. My main issues with the service is it’s outward interactions with us since purchasing the product. They have not proactively checked in to see how our is doing with the product.

The overall support for PitchBook is about average. It is not excellent for two primary reasons. First, PitchBook can run slow from time to time, and I cannot copy and paste from the Chrome extension. I have found neither of those issues to be a function of the computer I am using. However, the PitchBook support team has proved helpful on several occasions.

Alternatives Considered
HubSpot
When evaluating data enrichment solutions, we compared Clearbit against alternatives like ZoomInfo, InsideView, and D&B Hoovers. Clearbit emerged as our preferred choice for several key reasons:
- Superior API flexibility and integration capabilities, particularly with our existing tech stack - More competitive pricing model compared to enterprise solutions like ZoomInfo
- Higher data accuracy rates, especially for technology companies and digital-first businesses - Better developer documentation and support resources

While competitors like ZoomInfo might offer broader coverage for certain industries, Clearbit's focus on digital-first companies and B2B technology firms aligned perfectly with our target market. The platform's ability to provide real-time enrichment through API calls, combined with its straightforward implementation process, made it the most suitable choice for our specific use case.

Really well - though I think Beauhurst has the edge on UK specific investments, and Bloomberg has the edge on immediate updates. I think PitchBook is better than fDi Markets though, I would definitely recommend purchasing a PitchBook license over fDi Markets - but in a policy area that isn’t considering international investment, I might go with Beauhurst.

Return on Investment
HubSpot
  • It's provided some key data in terms of geography which we rely on to distribute our customers and prospects to territories.
  • Works great for large repositories of data, which we have.
  • Not as useful for proactive prospecting. We use it primarily for data enrichment and confirmation of demographic info.

  • It has allowed us to be more targeted in our sales campaigns.
  • Great headhunting and market mapping data.
  • We have been in a very difficult hiring market so it hasn't given me the ROI I would have hoped, but that isn't PitchBook's fault!
