Clover

Clover is perfect for restaurants, as well as any customer-facing company (whether a restaurant or other retail, etc.) that has multiple employees thanks to its shift management. Clover is great when you are trying out different promotional offers and discounts as well, such as happy hours at restaurants. It is less appropriate for a small business with very few employees, or a sole proprietorship, which might not use all the extra features Clover has to offer.

It is perfect for any small business looking for inventory control, Tracking purchase history, and just an all round easy to use software for retail and beyond. I would not use it if I have only a few hundred items or was a larger company that can afford to build my own POS software.

  • Lightspeed Retail has great reports that are very easy to read and understand.
  • Lightspeed Retail is great to train new employees on because of its ease of use. There are not lots of different things that you have to learn just basics.

  • SQL connectivity is non-existent if you just want to dump to a SQL instance somewhere to do your own reporting.
  • Open connectivity to e-commerce platforms: they want to force you to use their e-com platform, which is awful and non-standard.

There are numerous aspects to Clover's usability: the usability of their point of sale systems, the usability of their CRM and web dashboards, and the technical side of integrating with other third-party services. All are top tier. Clover's usability is excellent and I have never had a problem figuring out how to use their services at any level. The POS system has a very low barrier to entry and an easy learning curve for newcomers.

We rarely have problems, but when we do, they are major and the system becomes unusable. While Customer Support does eventually respond and fix the issue, they can take a long time. If a major problem occurs on a weekend during the dinner rush, it can be catastrophic to sales and customer returns.

I gave the rating of a 9 because ninety percent of the time when I talk to their support they're very helpful.One of the only real issues I have is there are times where the queue will be 7-9 people deep. When you have an error you don't know how to fix, sometimes this is very troubling.But overall their support is usually quick and friendly.

Clover

Clover is great because they have their own equipment, but it would be nice to make it more mobile and use it on an app from anywhere. Sometimes we go to events and have to use Square, which is another great option. For small businesses I would definitely recommend using something like Square because it doesn't have the monthly fees, it is by transaction only.

I searched through a few other POS systems however, lightspeed is the first and only that I have used. Because I can customize attributes for custom art projects they were my only option and for that reason we chose them.

  • It has had a very positive impact on business. There have been fewer mistakes by clerks and therefore less money lost.
  • We have not had any instances of outage of the server. This was not the case with the last system we used.
