Keepit vs. ShareGate

Any company that deals with the retention of important data should have Keepit to ensure operational security and data confidentiality. In scenarios such as using file servers in SharePoint, Teams, or Google Workspace, it's a tool that offers complete integration and helps save IT a lot of time on security incidents or human errors in file deletion. The fact that it only restores what is not in the folder, or backs up each version of the file given the snapshot date you choose, is fantastic. ShareGate is well suited for SharePoint on-prem to on prem site migrations, on-prem site to online SharePoint migrations, file share migrations to SharePoint online. Moving power and automating workflows using the ShareGate tool is less appropriate.

• Cross tenant restores, allows you to migrate mailboxes from one tenant to another.
• Being able to backup multiple tenants/platforms from a single interface is awesome.
• The setup and ongoing maintenance is great, articles on how to setup security and gain access to data in a secure way is also a great feature
• The interface is very intuitive and easy to navigate, it hides an awful lot of power

• It would be great if they showed delta changes automatically instead of having to manually complete it
• When completing a cross-tenant restore (which works well) the notifications are hard to understand and use GUID's instead of DisplayNames
• It would be great if it backed up more than M365/Entra
• Bulk restore limited to 5k items

Keepit is an awesome product that garantees a result with a simple interface, and a quick configuration integration. Nowadays the service is really good and all requests have been replied to very quickly, and that´s important for our satisfaction. The possibility of multiple points recovery is a plus as well.

It is a powerful tool for copying files along with their associated metadata and version history. It integrates seamlessly with Microsoft 365 and supports workflow migrations. However, it may not be ideal for non-technical users. Currently, it does not support Power Platform workflow migrations and lacks a pause function—offering only start or stop options during migration.

Such a simple solution to use. User friendly, intuitive, processes can be completed in minutes instead of hours with restoring from tape, and requesting the return of tapes from the off site location, thus saving many hours and cost of storage. Also gives the end user a better experience as files can be restored almost immediately.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the ShareGate tool, which is used effectively for migration purposes, not only to migrate the contents from SharePoint to SharePoint but also to the contents from file share to SharePoint. This tool helps us review the warnings/errors from the migrations quickly and helps us identify what caused the errors. I hope the ShareGate product team will consider migration of power automated workflows using this tool in future releases.

In most cases, ShareGate performs well—pages load quickly, and reports are generated in a reasonable timeframe, even for moderately complex environments. Its interface is responsive, and it handles standard migrations and administrative tasks efficiently. However, performance can slow down during very large migrations or when processing high volumes of data, especially if the source or destination environments are heavily customized

Support helped us to set up SSO and MFA with our Azure AD Accounts. Once when the backup was failing, they could help us to investigate the reason and find a stale account that was preventing the backup. They are really concerned that the backup works and not only want to close the ticket like other support hotlines.

The communication from KeepIT was on point, we did the implementation based on very little information as it was so easy to deploy, yet super powerful, it is a great tool.

We previously used Veeam to backup data from O365 to local servers. We had other SaaS platforms we needed to include and move from local to cloud backups. While Veeam does have multiple cloud options but compared with Keepit it was overly complicated and less cost effective. Keepit was a no-brainer in terms of simplicity and having a single 360 dashboard.

Cost prohibitive since it's based on size migrated and rather expensive. However, the feature-set is VERY good and has some things ShareGate doesn't.

ShareGate scales well across departments and sites, supporting large migrations and tenant moves with strong Microsoft 365 integration. However, it lacks advanced automation, Power Platform support, and pause/resume functionality, which can limit its effectiveness in highly complex or enterprise-scale environments.

• Share Gates reporting tools as an administrator make my job very very simple.
