Well suited to environments where IT staff need to access multiple servers/systems at the same time, cutting down on time wasted opening multiple windows.Not so useful for users that only need to access one system remotely, as most of its functions are largely unused in that case.

Zoho Assist

If you troubleshoot remote machines, this is an excellent alternative software to Rescue Me, Log Me In, Join Me, or Team Viewer. There is nothing those softwares offer that Zoho Assist does not offer, or at least the Zoho suite of products does not offer. I highly recommend Zoho Assist and we will not go without it.

mRemoteNG

  • Tabbed Views. Each server remote desktop is viewed in its own separate tab, similar to a web browser. This makes it much quicker and easier to switch between them than using separate windows.
  • Storing credentials. You can configure it with log on credentials for each system, saving time on accessing as you don't need to enter a password each time.
  • Multiple connection types. I use the traditional RDP the most, but mRemoteNG allows many different connection types, similar to Putty.

  • The user interface for configuration is a little basic, and not obvious for a new user to set up connections. It could be a bit clearer how to do that.
  • It does not seem to automatically update itself to new versions - though older ones work fine, you can miss out on some new functions if you don't check for updates manually.

Zoho Assist

  • Wake on LAN is very unreliable.
  • Zoho Assist service will stop workstations automatically sleeping (unless overridden) - this was done deliberately by their development team as they aware (and unable to fix) their issues with WOL.
  • Support is terrible - very quick response initially - but it can take weeks to get any actual support or solution. I currently have outstanding tickets over 2 months old with no response.
  • File transfer clunky, slow and inconsistent.
  • Clients often show offline when actually available and online.
  • Copy/paste inconsistent (clipboard).
  • Initially slow to connect to clients.

Very easy to use. Tech support is available, but not needed. Our customers are able to download and run the file quickly, an audible tone alerts users as to when the assisted person joins the session. It is functional, aesthetically pleasing, and contains all the capability anyone needs for remote support.

As I said earlier, Zoho Assist is a perfect remote access software and very well meets our needs to solve installation, uninstallation and general configuration issues. The interface is beautiful, clean, user-friendly and works very well on Windows 10. All the support and infrastructure staff approve and enjoy using it

mRemoteNG

mRemoteNG is far more useful than LogMeIn when on the same network, or VPN as the servers, as it allows multiple server screens open in multiple tabs. LogMeIn is much more useful when working out of the office for its ability to connect anywhere, but each system accessed is in a separate window making navigation a little tricky. Sometimes I use them in tandem however, LogMeIn to access a machine in my network, then mRemoteNG to access multiple machines from there!

Zoho Assist

Zoho Assist is often compared to screen sharing programs for meetings but its value is in the remote control and technical support functions. LogMeIn offers a similar function but at many times the monthly cost. They also charge extra monthly to use the software on mobile. Zoho allows you to use the program on all devices they support in their professional plan, which is a fraction of the cost. We are talking about a nearly $100 difference. They even offer a free plan for those starting out.
