Procore

Procore is well-suited for any mid to large general contractor, subcontractor, architect or engineer. I have seen it used by smaller companies, and the only issue that I have seen arise in those instances is that some smaller companies do not have the infrastructure built to go through the implementation process.

Prolog

  • Well suited: distributing information and collecting and keeping data
  • Less suited: quickly trying to process something or get info to subs

Pros

Procore

  • Provides transparency regarding who is doing what within each record, via the history tab.
  • Automates notifications and routing of submittals and RFIs via the workflow tool.

Prolog

  • Change orders: great way to send and document official communications to subs and clients.
  • Drawings: always good to have drawings and info readily available.

Cons

Procore

  • Better control of emails; while we use the granular email options within each tool that we use, we are still in the process of refining that due to user feedback regarding excessive emails.
  • The format of emails sent is difficult to comprehend quickly. Text formatting, placement, and clarity regarding what is actually being conveyed need improvement. Emails need to be more accurate; for example, when a revised document is being sent via email, the email itself should include the revision number. And when a submittal is assigned to someone for review, the email should show who actually assigned it to them, not just the submitter name, which is misleading. And those that are merely copied on the email should not receive an email saying it has been assigned to them.
  • Submittals versus submittal packages is a bit unwieldy still and does not conform to how many of us in the industry are accustomed to receiving, reviewing and returning submittals. Bulk actions for multiple submittal items in one package would be nice.
  • Allowing us to re-number meeting agenda items would be great. Now, if we make a mistake when creating an agenda and need to delete or move an item, it does not properly re-number the items.
  • Including the approver/reviewer's due date for submittals in the email they receive, rather than the final due date, would be huge. We often have multiple reviewer/approvers on submittals, and they need to know when we need it back from them, not when we are required to return to the contractor.
  • An awareness of the fact that not all users are using Procore all day, every day. Many A/E consultants are only accessing the program when they need to retrieve an item or respond to an item.
  • Provide more granular permissions. Allow me to allow a standard level user to create an open RFI. Allow me to allow a standard level user to do other tasks that are an important function of their work while maintaining control of the tools and functions that are not. This comes back to recognizing that not all users are general contractors, receiving work from their subcontractors and that the way we work in Procore is different than the way a GC does.

Prolog

  • A lot of steps, tad confusing
  • Very in-depth, not necessarily a con, but requires a lot of information

Alternatives Considered

Procore

Procore provides a more robust construction administration platform than either Prolog or PlanGrid, in our opinion. It is easier for new users to start, and after a period of use, it has been better received than other programs we've used.

Prolog

Procore is what I currently use. It is good, they are both efficient and very good products. They both have their flaws, but they do what they are there to do and in a smart manner. Great way to effectively distribute and have all information readily available in your hand at all times.

Return on Investment

Procore

  • We've definitely saved paper by implementing Procore and other electronic solutions.
  • Efficiency has been increased for us by some degree due to the automation of tasks, such as workflows and workflow templates.

Prolog

  • Positive: kept jobs running smoothly, awesome tool to track and oversee projects
  • Negative: not much really, good tool, just very in-depth with information that is needed to fill in documentation
