Sage is not at all well suited for small companies who want an agile, nimble setup for quick moving situations and mobile use. These type of companies should look elsewhere such as a SaaS offering from another vendor. In addition Sage is very expensive both in its initial outlay and ongoing support.Medium and larger sized companies benefit from a Sage install much more than the smaller constructor. Having the modules all work in unison is important when a company is of a certain size as is having the long tenured support structure. In addition Sage requires the terminals services setup to use it remotely and the larger companies are more likely to have the infrastructure and support for that type of setup

Vista by Viewpoint is surely a accounting-based program. It is more aimed at the financial health and wellness reporting on a project rather than a day-to-day operations system. This is great for internal office employees that understand the accounting behind a construction project and how it affects the success of the build. This is not a program used for field employees to know where the project stands.

Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate
- There are a lot of ways to drill down into information. The ability to run inquiries that can be easily exported into Excel is incredibly useful.
- The help desk is very helpful. There are multiple ways to get a hold of someone and it is extremely useful.
- The knowledgebase articles are very helpful and provide a lot of great detail.

Cons
Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate
- Lack of data validation and controls
- Extremely limited report configuration without significant customization
- Too many arbitrary limits like vendor name that forced partial names into the address
- Very outdated UI
- Very siloed forcing users to open different applications for different functions

- Its history is that most entries are transaction-based, requiring batch processing. Some of these could be moved to background batch processing so the batching would be more transparent to the user.
- More data needs to be available on mobile devices. They are making a move in this direction, which is good.
- Some screens allow flexibility of viewing data in grid views, but the export of this data to Excel could be improved. This is mostly seen in Workcenters.

It's very customizable and accessible outside of Vista itself (SQL, Excel, home grown programs, etc.), but Viewpoint is very slow at fixing bugs and adding suggestions from their suggestion box. If this last area was better, I would have given this a 9 or 10.

Sage is somewhat easy to use as far as its simplicity, however, when I first started using it I really wished there were more training materials available. As I did research to figure out what resources were there to learn how to use the paid software, all I found were courses you have to pay for. In my personal opinion, I don't think you should have to pay to learn how to use a software you bought.

I find Viewpoint Customer Portal not great for help and support. Answers are from other users who use the product specifically for their organization and there is a TON of information that is irrelevant to other users. I also find that online support tends to be geared more toward organizations that have their own departments just handling Viewpoint with dedicated IT staff vs smaller firms where the administration is responsible (among many other duties) for Viewpoint functionality. The product itself is pretty powerful but easy to get stuck just using the same functionality without support on new products developments.

They have a very quick, responsive team that assists. They also have great higher-level engineers who assist in more complicated matters and all in all, you need a support team that is quick to respond when you are in the middle of business crises.

The support is good for the most part, but [we] have had delays in getting certain issues resolved. We have had a third-party company come in to assist us with some learning skills and issues, and then we have had the same company, later on, help with training on certain areas, such as reports.

The trainer Viewpoint sent did not understand the processes, he only knew where the modules were located. He had no understanding of the actual process itself.

We currently have Sage in place which handles the majority of our business needs on the back end, but compared to some others that are on the market like Builder Trend, it does lack the client facing side of the house. To make it a better product, a client facing portal would be best so they can be up to date.

Both are very similar software. I really like Vista by Viewpoint. If it were my job to choose, but it is not. I would most likely go with Vista because It is completely user friendly, easily trainable and easily mobile. I am sure there is even more difference but I am not sure of any huge differences

- The accounting functions (AP, AR, GL) are mature so it does a great job with core financials. The reports are flexible so it does a good job of providing flexibility in report writing. The application is written for a workgroup so multiple people can use it at the same time. The transaction detail is strong so that a transaction can be rolled back if necessary.

- HR Management product is great and has made on boarding to time off requests and everything in between very easy, functional and efficient
- Very scaleable product that has easily handled a 30% increase in employee headcount
- Sometimes hard to be a specialty contractor with a product that tries to appeal to general contractors as well.
