Yes. IBM Watson Studio with data integration has definitely made it easier for data scientist to use and build storage systems which would have previously tasks assigned to devops, system admins or DB admins. With a straight-forward UI and built-in options, it allows a better workflow for data ingestion and transformation.

Through IMB Watson Catalog we able to achieve a nice categorical and hierarchical representation of tools.
Finding data is easy with catalog.
We achieved govern data, understand data, prepare and connect data.
Achieved to connect Amazon webservice.
Connection to Twitter and PDF and excel file is a remarkable usage of IMB catalog.

I believe these time savings have been achieved however, this has primarily been for students with a novice level of knowledge around data science and the intricate processes included in the cataloging, refiners, visualization etc. stages of a project. Members of staff with a much broader knowledge of these processes and services have found that a reduction of wasted time can be found on occasion but because they have been trained to use other tools, they find they work more effectively with those.

I have not used Data Catalog and Data Refinery. I have used the data import features to insert data sources into my notebook. I will say that using the data import feature is handy as you can easily integrate those resources with a simple click of a button. As far as the time savings, I have see a little bit improvement. Large files such as zip files are a little easier to use with Watson Studio Cloud Storage.

I haven't yet used those capabilities but will explore those options once I get more proficient on Watson Studios. I would imagine that those services in a one shop stop place like Watson studios would be both a great time saver and convenient. Looking forward to trying it out and learning more.

We have a limited data sources connection, however would like to test this broadly. Our focus was mainly around monitoring and predicting plant upsets and advice on optimization during these constraints. In our case it is more about awareness. Time-savings is a small component.

Data Refiner is the one part of the portfolio that is the most lacking. It's poorly designed and poorly thought out, and requires far more time to use and administer than the benefits it delivers. In theory, it should make the data science experience better, but it's cumbersome and shockingly dumb—loading a CSV of integer values, for example, requires manual recasting of every column as a numeric value. It can't detect that.

It is useful to some extent because it allows the team of engineers to access the data from multiple sources and enable collaboration. The shaping operation that allows us to curate and organize the data is also useful from the productivity point of view. The data visualization is also useful to allow us to see where are data gaps so that we can do experiments to fill them.

Time savings is one of Watson Studio's greatest perks. Time is money. Our organization was able to collect, clean, and analyze data through one platform, ultimately saving the organization time by reducing the amount of time spent navigating singular third party offerings.

When we last used DSX with a live customer engagement Data Catalog and Refinery weren't yet available, so we had to use Data Connect instead. What we found was it was extremely limited in terms of capability, and relatively slow in terms of performance and developer productivity. Data Refinery in contrast provides more transformations, better visualisation, improved governance and logging, but we have not used it yet in anger

We save files in daily batches (CSV files) in IBM cloud object storage; then we can only use the data catalog on single files, slowing us down significantly. The alternative would be to connect Watson Analytics engine to create hive tables on multiple files, but that is too expensive.

As my focus has shifted to data governance, the value of the integration with data catalog is a definite benefit that is undervalued. Data factory has continued to improve after each iteration and if this continues, an ability for data factory/catalog capabilities to provide the data lineage for any DSX project would prove very beneficial in supporting regulatory or contractual requirements for data terms of use.

Yes, I was able to save a lot of time regarding connecting to my data sources and refining, mainly on the connections camp. The fact that the data refinery required the data to be presented in a certain way mostly is what kept me from achieving a great time saving on this aspect of the product. Still, the huge catalog, ease of use and pre-configured environment made a huge impact on speeding up the analysis process.
