ADSelfService Plus - Easy to use dependable and will save you time

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have a development network. We ran into an issue after moving to a new domain as to how we could allow users on that dev network to reset their passwords (there are no machines with an OS that they can log into on that domain). Our solution to allow users to reset their passwords was to spin up a machine on that domain with manage engine Self Service Plus running. This allows the users to connect to the portal to manage their accounts. It has worked great, saved me a lot of time (unlocking and changing passwords etc). I would highly recommend the solution to anyone with a similar situation or a standard on premise domain.

Pros

  • Ease of use
  • Reliable solution that requires little maintenance
  • Allows our users to manage their own accounts easily.

Cons

  • The only thing I can think of is another way of resetting rather then security questions. Many companies are moving away from these as they are sometimes easy to guess or get from someone.

Return on Investment

  • Saves the IT contact hours and hours of time (added up) in managing accounts for users.
  • Dont have specific ROI numbers but definitely work the money

  • looks good when having security audits

Usability

ADSelfService Plus Review.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use ManageEngine SelfService Plus to help users reset passwords while off campus. They aren't able to reset a password as easily while off campus, which made AD SelfService Plus a perfect fit. Since many of our users are off campus over the summer, but password resets still occur every 90 days, we needed a solution to keep users from getting locked out of their accounts. With customizable email notifications, we provide instructions and the reset deadline, making it a breeze for IT and end users.

Pros

  • Password Expiration Notifications.
  • Password resets.
  • Access to Locked out accounts.

Cons

  • The user interface could use a little overhaul, but it's not terrible.
  • It's hard to find things that need improvement, the system is well designed.

Return on Investment

  • Much fewer help tickets for users with expiring passwords.
  • The automated emails mean we don't miss anyone whose password is expiring.
  • We've also used the MFA option for admin access to servers, adding that little extra peace of mind that they are secure.

ADSelfService Plus is feature-rich and allows granular control

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use ADSelfService Plus (ADSSP) for initial password setup and password reset. We needed a tool that we could perform initial password setups for our student population based on their personal email address and phone number. We also needed a more secure way for employees to set up and change their password. ADSSP allows very granular control of password strengths and this can be customized for different audiences.

Pros

  • Tight integration with Active Directory
  • Offers several different MFA options
  • Offers granular control of password requirements
  • Easily integrates with 3rd party SMS and email platforms

Cons

  • Initial setup can be confusing
  • Integration with Entra as a data source would be beneficial
  • Low priced SaaS offering would be welcome

Return on Investment

  • Reduces help desk calls
  • Offers far more tailored options than Entra SSPR
  • Can be securely preloaded with user email and phone number for initial password setup
