Overall Satisfaction with Alfresco

We use Alfresco to manage all the documentation we digitize from our customers. With Alfresco is easy to store it, sort and then search for it.

Being Open Source makes it very customizable, so we can adapt to our customers demand, that are very unique and we we're not able to do with other ECM solutions.

Pros

  • Storing documentation
  • Full-text search engine
  • Automate record lifecycle
  • Creating rules for documents and folders
  • Highly Customizable

Cons

  • ACA interface is very lacking
  • APS could have a fully Open Source version
  • Deprecation of important features in Community edition
  • We were able to save money by only needing to use 1 platform to serve our customers
  • The Community version is free to use
  • We charge our customers for customization so this greatly boosted our sales.
The UI is very intuitive, most of our users figure out how to use the platform by themselves, so there's not much training needed.

You can upload files by using the web drag and drop, WebDAV, FTP, and more.

Most of the platform already works as-is so you can just deploy it using Docker and it's mostly ready to go.
Nextcloud is good for it's intended use case but because Nextcloud has an AGPL license, that limited what we could do with our Proprietary solution, where's Alfresco LGPL is more flexible for us.

Also, the full-text search is one of Alfresco's biggest strong points so Nextcloud's search is no match for Alfresco's.

Do you think Alfresco delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Alfresco's feature set?

Yes

Did Alfresco live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Alfresco go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Alfresco again?

Yes

Alfresco works great for storing and managing a high volume of documents, of any kind of file format. You can even preview commonly used file formats (PDF, DOCX, XLSX, etc) and develop custom content transformers, to auto-convert files that are uploaded into the ECM.

Alfresco requires a beefy server to work great but it does pay off.
