Overall Satisfaction with Apollo.io

We use Apollo.io to help identify trends, like hiring, inside companies we want to work with, as well as finding new companies to market toward. Direct outbound email has always been one of our main successful routes for reaching out, and the research tools available with Apollo.io allow our small team to leverage our time better in research and then outreach as well. Being an all in one, as well as integrating very well with CRM tools allows us to keep cold contacts separate and only move them to our CRM once there is established interest.

Pros

Cons

  • Credit usage is not always clear, we've done actions and then been surprised by the credit usage, so having more clarity on this BEFORE the credits are used up would be great.
  • LinkedIn steps are not ideal, there's no automation and does nothing to speed up or help with that step, this really is an email platform, not for social media.
  • Increased out outreach capacity by 300%
  • Was able to correct about 20% of our CRM database that had outdated information, which would have typically meant losing their info completely and having to start again
Having everything for cold outreach in one spot greatly reduced the amount of time we previously spent doing it, allowing us to make a 300% increase in outreach volume per person. Before, we used a combination of outreach automation tools, spreadsheets, and search tools. All in one provided a clean option for us.
Removing duplicate data entries into different software, integrating with our CRM, while keeping cold/bad contacts outside our main CRM meant we weren't paying for contacts in our CRM that were not valid yet, and ensuring data wasn't lost between cold outreach and the nurturing stage. Before, we would often lose some information between cold outreach campaigns and when we had warm leads to actually engage with.
While most of it is intuitive, there is a learning curve especially with figuring out the filters for finding your ICP. There are a ton of filter options, which is great, but takes time to learn. The credit system does not warn you how many credits you'll use when you click to take an action like "update current position on list" or something like that, you have to manually calculate this, which caused some surprises for us. However, the capability of the platform and what we could achieve with it is quite remarkable.
The others we tried did not integrate all the tools needed for cold outreach, while staying focused on cold outreach. Zoho and HubSpot are really CRMs trying to be cold outreach, Meet Alfred is really a LinkedIn tool with some email outreach components, and Mailshake has a limited tool set, it's really just a mass email system. All of these are great, and we've used them, but for cold email outreach specifically, Apollo.io can find the leads and then help with outreach to those leads.

It is best used for cold outreach sales. While it has some research capabilities for trends in some ways, it really shines in finding and maintaining up to date information on contacts. Being able to mass update contacts that might have moved to a new company allows you to see easily when you might need to find a new contact, or if you have a contact at a new company, expanding your network and reach. It is not a CRM, I don't recommend using it as your full CRM, it is great for tracking cold outreach, but then you should move contacts to your actual CRM tool.
