Overall Satisfaction with Basecamp
We used Basecamp to coordinate remote workers and contractors on shared projects and to establish workflows to coordinate those projects. Basecamp offers lots of flexibility, but there's little you can to do benefit from economies of scale in executing similar projects over and over again and that represents 95% of the projects our organization does. Each project becomes a silo, and when you care about 10 simultaneous, similar projects, BaseCamp is less than ideal.
Pros
- Basecamp is easy to get started using.
- Basecamp has a friendly interface.
- Basecamp allows for community and communication.
Cons
- Basecamp lacks a powerful templating system.
- Basecamp silos each project.
- Basecamp lacks a detailed single pane of glass/dashboard to oversee multiple projects.
- Basecamp helped us realize we needed something different.
- Basecamp helped us realize the value of process in addition to collaboration.
We moved from Basecamp to monday.com. Monday is much better suited to an environment where most projects are similar to other projects you are currently working on or have already completed. Monday isn't as "social" or as "community building" as Basecamp, but we've always used Slack as our communication tool, so that hasn't been a problem.
