Overall Satisfaction with BigCommerce

It is used all across our business, for the following:
  • Inventory control.
  • Online store/ecomm shopfront & customer shopping experience.
  • Order fulfillment and wholesale logistics (with our shipping integration).
  • Basic CRM.
  • Customer Service portal (for order review, customer/order notes etc).
  • Review of business performance through analytics.
It is effectively the hub of our core business. We're building a retail fashion brand with ecomm as our core distribution channel. Whilst we also have bricks and mortar retail shopfronts, the eComm channel represent our core busines.
  • It's great to set up quickly for a business just starting out, but with good ability to scale.
  • Continual improvement of the service and making it more open to customizations specific to the business use case.
  • Good account management at an Enterprise level.
  • They can sometimes be slow to solve difficult issues.
  • Some of the UI features are getting a bit dated (but I know they have plans to upgrade these).
  • The Promotions functionality & Customer groups are a bit clunky.
  • It allows us to clearly review revenue in real time, as well as attribution to each marketing channel.
  • The value for money is great -- we view the Enterprise cost similar to rent on a brick and mortar storefront; the % return on the cost is very good.
  • Great on SEO -- our ranking has consistently improved with use. We've worked hard across all areas to improve this, but being on BigCommerce has definitely helped.
It has scaled well with our business so far, and I know BigCommerce has a roadmap to be the open ecommerce SaaS platform, so scalability is very important to that aim.
We have not made very much use of the APIs to date, though we utilize a handful of third-party apps that use open APIs. As we grow, we see this as an incredibly important aspect to ensure that we can tailor our branded experience for customers and increase our service to customers across every part of the acquisition/conversion journey.
BigCommerce is better than both in almost every way. Big Cartel is a great platform for small art based businesses but doesn't have the functionality required for a more complex business. We moved our business from Volusion to BigCommerce years ago, as the platform was antiquated and didn't seem to be improving... I'm not sure what improvements they've made since.
BigCommerce is great for online businesses or brick and mortar businesses with a need for ecomm functionality. There haven't been many areas where it hasn't suited us.
