Offers a lot of options, great tech support, but detail work can be overwhelming for smaller family businesses
Overall Satisfaction with BigCommerce
To sell sports equipment to United States and Canada. We are a small family business that builds tennis courts and tracks as well as sell tennis court maintenance equipment. In 2005, we were only building and selling to a four state area, I suggested building a website to expand our selling base to the entire United States.
Pros
- Tech support is excellent. And they are nice! No question is too small.
- Offers a good variety of choices for website presentation
- Offers free sales tax integration...this is huge for me
Cons
- Haven't had a lot of success with the search content when I have a specific problem. You have to go thru whole article or listen to whole video and then most times my question is still not answered. Most times now I do not even bother. Just call tech support.
- I find it hard to add colors or sizes or multiple options to a product. Still haven't figured it out. And that is huge for me. Need something easier to understand or more intuitive.
- Hard to arrange products under classifications in the order you want or if you want to change. Sometimes have to go back and rearrange a whole classification one product at a time if you want to feature it.
- You need a place where you can record tasks...ie promotion for October on tennis posts...when promotion is over either BigCommerce reminds you or it automatically removes promotion from product.
- Not sure as I was so small when I started. Until I brought in someone to handle my Google Ad words and SEO, I didn't see a major increase in business.
- Did feel like BigCommerce made me look like a real company and not just a thrown together website.
- Easier for customer to communicate with me and offers opportunities for me to communicate back.
$20,000 to $100,000
As I have covered before, you have lots of pre programmed options for home page, etc available. But if they are not what you want, you have a problem unless you can program yourself. Integrations are numerous also and I think you offer a lot that most larger companies could use. Because we are small and I am the only person available to work on the website. I find the workload cumbersome and overwhelming to make the smallest change. I believe that is unique for my situation so I am not sure I am a good person to ask this question.
I am pretty sure that when Prostores closed they recommended you as a good replacement (among other people). At that time price and how easy the transition was going to be were my chief concerns. So you won that battle. I will say that I have not regretted the decision with one exception, when you took my Google feed away. Now I pay someone to do my Google feed and it is an extra expense. I make changes often on my products and therefore an everyday feed is very important to me. Big Commerce "free replacements" did not offer that.
