Overall Satisfaction with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT

We use Raiser's Edge for tracking donations and for maintaining a database of donors and contacts to receive communications from our organization. We track biographical information in the media and notes tab. We occasionally look to see if someone has read or email communications. We pull lists for mailing and various analytical reports. We use the events module in the database vies to do our seating for events. I pull reports on outstanding pledges for our events. In the past we used the action tab but haven't been doing that lately.
  • able to quickly look up donors at events from a phone
  • able to arrange panels to see what you need
  • my coworker uses ResearchPoint in conjunction with NXT
  • I hate how you can't press enter to search for a name. If you press enter it takes you to the last record you opened instead of what you were just typing. Pressing enter is a default habit and it's hard to break for using NXT.
  • When my colleagues enter new info or create new records the info does not carry over properly to the database view and it messes up our records and lists. We constantly tell people not to make new records or do big updates in NXT but they do and the address formats are wrong or the emails don't carry over
  • I still almost exclusively use the database view and will until NXT is as good and functional as the database view. Any time we ask a question about NXT RE reps tell us they're working on it or it will be a feature someday. I'm not willing to give up functionality to use "the new thing"
  • Gift entry and reporting
  • Seating for events
  • maintaining contact information for constituents
  • My organization has been using Raiser's Edge since the 90s. I'm not aware that NXT has had any major impact on us.
  • Our business office stopped using Financial Edge recently. I'm not sure what the logic was there or if it had anything to do with NXT.
  • Some people have enjoyed looking up donors at events. I find I have to redo coworker's entries if they update donor records in NXT instead of the database view
One of my coworkers uses ResearchPoint and we've all gone through training and the yearly meetings. It all sounds good but I'm not sure how much we actually use it or how much new information it really gives us that is accurate. Even with all the trainings I am still overwhelmed by it and not that interested in using it.
I don't remember too much about the training. It was when NXT first came out and our organization got it pretty early on. What stands out to me is it seemed like everything we asked about the answer was "It's coming soon." or "You'll be able to do that in the future but not now."
Every organization I've worked at has used Raiser's Edge. I don't have any experience with other databases. I have never been a decision maker in picking Raiser's Edge. Knowing what I know now, if I did have a say I would've put off getting NXT as long as possible until more features became available. I still prefer the database view.

Do you think Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT's feature set?

No

Did Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT again?

Yes

Overall Raiser's Edge is the industry standard for fundraising and development (not sure why that category wasn't an option in the previous question where we selected our industry) and if an organization can afford it I would recommend it. As far as using NXT specifically, for all the reasons I stated before, I would recommend to anyone that they learn and use the database view if they need to do anything besides look at a donor's contact info or giving history. NXT is not good enough to use all the capabilities that RE has. Until it is I won;t use it and wouldn't recommend it.
