Overall Satisfaction with Canva

Our entire marketing department has used Canva at one time or another, and I use it regularly (weekly or more). We use it to create clean, original designs for our clients, including social media posts and ads, calls to action, newsletter headers, even brochures and longer form documents. We do have other design software but Canva is so simple, user friendly and fast. It really helps us address what most companies face - limited time (Canva is fast and easy), limited staffing (one person can do the design work of three people), and limited [software] budgets (we don't have to invest in several other software packages).
  • Canva offers templates for any possible project you can imagine.
  • Any of Canva's templates are fully customizable - so if you choose a great template but need to swap the font to your company's font - go ahead!
  • Canva is intuitive - the UX is amazing. After a short, 2 minute tutorial, I was ready to go!
  • CROPPING! You can't crop any images or designs with the standard Canva product. I believe you can if you upgrade. However I just download the image and crop in another program.
  • Limited stock images - there aren't a TON of stock images ready to use and most you must pay for anyway. However the UPLOAD function allows you to upload and manipulate your own images.
  • The way Canva saves files is sometimes difficult to navigate. I may be missing a setting somewhere but my file listing looks just like a jumbled up digital corkboard.
  • I don't have hard numbers but we're probably saving thousands on design software each year.
  • We're also probably saving thousands in staffing time each year.
  • As Canva allows us to provide high quality, customized designs, it's probably helped us win a deal or two.
For my needs, Canva is a great complement to Photoshop. Canva is faster, easier and simpler, and has great templates. However as I previously mentioned, you can't crop Canva designs. So with this and a few other small limitations in mind, I often create a design in Canva, then make finishing touches using Photoshop.
Canva is definitely well suited for simple, templated designs, such as calls to action or social media ads. If you have very specific brand guidelines, extra-specialized fonts or other company-wide style limitations, Canva may not be the solution for you. Having said this, I haven't come across a single client were we couldn't use Canva for something.
