Overall Satisfaction with Cision PR Software

Cision PR helps us to have a professional and consistent PR program without paying an agency to do the basic block and tackling work. It is used by a junior operator on my marketing team.

Pros

  • Execute PR
  • Maintain journalist database and find new journalists
  • Analyze performance

Cons

  • Their customer support/account team is not the best. You can get an answer out of them, but takes repeated requests.
  • Their reporting tools are good, but do require some up-front investigation and verification of accuracy.
  • Cision has been helpful in building our brand awareness via PR efforts and has helped us to engage with more journalists. We have been able to effectively prove results using their ROI tools.
My team made this evaluation for me, I do not recall any other platform names. We made the decision to move from a full-blown PR agency relationship to using Cision.
In my opinion, Cision PR works well if you have strong writers on staff and are simply looking for a platform on which to manage all PR efforts. It is also helpful in finding new journalists with the "Help a Reporter Out" feature. It does not replace the strategic insight and relationship building you can find with an outside PR agency. I have a junior staff that manages the platform/execution of PR. She is paired up with an outside PR contractor for our larger efforts.
