Great Networking Services at the speed of the Internet
Overall Satisfaction with Cloudflare
Cloudflare is our company CDN and is heavily used for all kinds of heavy features like Domain Name Service (DNS) and denial of service protection (DDoS mitigation), Global load balance and traffic analysis, Firewall, and other BOT control solutions. Cloudflare is integrated heavily with our products and it's industry standard for network services. Their services are especially good to avoid vendor lock-in and cloud-agnostic solutions since Cloudflare works well with Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Pros
- Bot Mitigation.
- DDoS protection.
- Globally Load Balanced CDN.
- Easy-to-use DNS.
Cons
- Node computing.
- Storage like S3.
- Faster load times and better availability of our services.
- Faster detection and mitigation of DDoS attacks.
- Filtering bad traffic.
CloudFlare is always innovating fast and adding new interesting solutions to the CDN, DNS, and DDoS problems that keep appearing as the internet grows and matures. Due to network effects, using CloudFlare is easier, faster, and more reliable than the competitors, and their support is super fast. I have used other solutions in previous companies like Akamai but their APIs were not very easy to use and their interfaces were not that friendly, also their CDNs were not as fast to clear the cache.
When I joined Cloudflare was already a key part of TransferWise infrastructure, as you can see on our technical blog post about our engineering stack: https://www.wise.jobs/2020/05/21/transferwise-stack-2020-edition/ I believe the onboarding and implementation process was fairly easy as we integrated early on, and all new services are protected and integrated with Cloudflare solutions from the get-go. We immediately begin to get value from Cloudflare in savings from hosting and network costs due to CDN optimisation, and also DDoS and BOT protection as we grow and get more popular.
