Overall Satisfaction with Crazy Egg
Crazy Egg is being used by e-commerce department to track user engagement with our site. We can pinpoint a page on our site and monitor the interaction using Crazy Egg's heatmap, scrollmap and confetti (clicks).
Pros
- Easy integration. When we first started Crazy Egg, I was able to quickly and easily add it to our tag manager.
- Quick setup and live URL testing to make sure test is properly working. There's no guessword; I plug in the URL and it does the work!
- It's a simple software to use for quick information about how user's are interacting with our site. I don't have to jump through a lot of hoops to get to the data.
Cons
- The largest thing we've struggled with is the Optimizely integration. I've contacted customer service a few times to get it properly setup. Customer Service is always friendly and helpful; they provide clear steps to get it setup. Unfortunately despite clear instructions, they are tedious, and if not completed in the correct order, the integration with Optimizely does not work. My success rate with the integration is less than 55%.
- Positive Impact: Answering questions that analytics cannot. i.e. Are people seeing the PayPal button? We can measure how many people start the PayPal process on our site. However, its hard to know if low numbers are because of low interest or because our customers are missing the option.
- Positive Impact: Measuring user engagement for page types to determine what elements on the page are most important to our customers.
- Positive Impact: Lower cost than competitors to use helpful engagement tracking software. Currently, we're not consistently using Crazy Egg for user engagement so the $50 a month is perfect for our current needs.
We've never used ClickTale and it was obvious that they offered a lot for businesses. The reason why we chose Crazy Egg is because it fit our business needs and scale perfectly. We do not utilize the software as much as we should; however, when we do use it, we gain a lot of insight from the results (heatmap, scrollmap and click data). When we compared ClickTale to Crazy Egg features, we realized for our business at this time Crazy Egg was the best match for price and features.
Evaluating Crazy Egg and Competitors
- Price
- Product Features
- Product Usability
The single most important factor in our decision was the price. We never used heatmaps and/or scrollmaps on our site prior. We did have concerns about spending a lot of money and not understanding the ROI. The competitors offered a lot of product features; however, Crazy Egg offered the exact product features we were looking for at a great price ($49 a month).
We're happy with Crazy Egg and what we use it for. I think our evaluation was fair and we made the best choice for our needs. In our evaluation, we spoke to a couple of competitors, but after weighing product features and price, we determined price outweighed features. We needed a way to prove that we could use a software like Crazy Egg and see positive ROI. The features offered by Crazy Egg were (in our opinion) mostly the same as competitors and didn't appear to be hard to use.

Like to use Relatively simple Easy to use Technical support not required Well integrated Consistent Quick to learn Convenient Feel confident using Familiar | None |
- Integrating Crazy Egg javascript into our site. As a quick implementation, I was able to add JS to our tag manager to quickly get started, and I have very limited implementation skills.
- Starting a test using URL and using dashboard to confirm if its running. Super simple.
- Selecting which device to run a snapshot. If I want all 3, they are there. If I only want 1 device such as mobile, I feel confident in the accuracy of the results.
- Integrate with Optimizely. Customer Service at Crazy Egg has been excellent and provided step-by-step instructions for integrating. However, the process is very tedious and requires each step to be completed perfectly in order. My success rate is low.
