Overall Satisfaction with DemandTools

We leverage DemandTools to perform bulk data operations like de-duplication, mass update, and mass reassignment. Our sales operations team makes extensive use of the tool because it has much more customization and functionality compared to other tools. We use it to dedupe our lead and contact databases to make sure our marketing automation syncs accurately and correctly notifies the correct party. We also use it to deduplicate our accounts and sometimes leverage it to merge records that don't have native merging available in SFDC. Also, since it has the ability to pull in fields from related objects, we can easily manipulate our data to stay organized.
  • DemandTools is highly customizable around different scenarios based on different business needs.
  • DemandTools' record merging and mass conversion tools closely align with our data strategy.
  • The ability to save and load custom scenarios makes configuration super easy.
  • Being a PC-only local client makes it unavailable to our users on different OSs.
  • The interface needs an update.
  • Build functionality to allow for different job sizes when not in batch mode.
  • Significant time savings in record deduplication
  • Cleaner lead/contact data from mass converting utility
  • Siloed to only PC users
We looked at Cloudingo before finalizing DemandTools. Since we purchased it before the Validity acquisition, it was commercial off the shelf software, which made it very appetizing for our data security team. In addition to this, DemandTools offered a much higher level of customization and a more expansive feature set.
If you have large volumes of complex data, DemandTools is definitely a must-have. If you can accomplish what you need to just using tools like DataLoader, you can stay with that. The moment you have a need to deduplicate your data, this is where DemandTools really shines because the dedupe utilities are very easy to use and configure.

Using DemandTools

DemandTools is used for different members across several teams. Any groups that need the ability to manipulated, update, or dedupe data en masse use the tool. It's primarily leveraged by our Sales and Marketing Operations teams. Sales Ops uses DT to find and merge duplicate accounts and migrate data. Marketing Ops uses the tool to merge leads to contacts. The tool has been critical to us maintaining clean data.
2 - All of our DT users are heavy SFDC and excel users. They all have high competency in deal with large volumes of data. You need to have a solid understanding of your SFDC schema, metadata, and configuration to be effective with DT. Majority of the users have analytical backgrounds that understand how different objects are related in SFDC.
  • Deduplication of records
  • Mass data migration

  • Merging of Leads and Contacts based on Lead to Account Matching

  • Merging duplicates of custom objects

  • Automated deduplication jobs
If you are a power user of Dataloader, DT is a breath of fresh air. It was like going from a Kia to a Ferrari for our power users. The amount of features and functionality are impossible to do with comparable tools and it'll be in our company's tool belt for the foreseeable future.

Evaluating DemandTools and Competitors

  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
  • Product Reputation
  • Prior Experience with the Product
DT has the domain expertise in SFDC to make this decision easy. They've been the leader in this category for years because of the rich feature set and ease of use for SFDC admins. I've taken DT with me to multiple companies to ensure that our admins have a best in class tool to work with.
Since the acquisition from Validity, their pricing model has changed. I preferred the per seat model instead of the org wide model, but DT is still the best tool out there. We didn't receive much by way of discounting, but we were incentivized to renew early and get a free month. Since there are many use cases for being able to manipulate SFDC data, my advice would be to outline your scenarios in a very detailed way and determine if DT if the right tool for you.
