Overall Satisfaction with Deputy

We use Deputy to rota all of our staff, full and part-time, across the different areas of our business. It allows managers to quickly and easily schedule teams, keeps track of hours, see upcoming time off and find availability. It helps staff see their upcoming shifts, book holiday, and mark unavailability. For our accounting team is makes payroll easier by tracking approved timesheets making sure everyone is paid accurately.
  • Creating work schedules.
  • Managing timesheets for payroll.
  • Easy holiday requests and availability for staff.
  • Messaging and chat.
  • Integration with Xero is fiddly.
  • Sometimes clocking in fails due to internet issues.
  • Accurate payroll.
  • Time saved on scheduling.
  • Useful app for staff.
Deputy felt a lot easier and cleaner to use, it had more features that suited our needs. When I Work didn't have the customization needed for our team. When we tried it there was also no user app, however, this may have changed since. Deputy was also a better value per user.

Do you think Deputy delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Deputy's feature set?

No

Did Deputy live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Deputy go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Deputy again?

Yes

Most features are very easy to use, scheduling staff, booking time off and seeing schedules. The timesheet approval is a little clunky, no way to set rules when approving, just manual edits (e.g. start times) The kiosk app can be a bit temperamental with bad internet connections so doesn't always register a clock in.
We found it easy to setup employees on Deputy, there wasn't really any issues with implementation. We have struggled to link employees to their Xero employee files and it doesn't seem the easiest thing to make work but in all fairness I haven't given it much time to diagnose what's wrong.
For small to medium-size independent businesses, I would say Deputy is perfect, maybe when you start to go above 20 - 30 employees I can see it getting cluttered. Also, it might be overkill for 1-3 employees. For our business of 15 people across 3 teams it works great.
