Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox

I am a drone service provider here in Central Florida and I use Dropbox to give deliverables to my clients. The deliverables that I use for Dropbox are mostly photo/video content. It solves the problem of finding a way to give the client the videos or photos, it is very easy for them to use, and it gives me a lot of bang for my buck as far as paid cloud storage providers. I have also used it to deliver LiDAR data to a survey company that I work with and it worked great for that as well. It was something ridiculous as far as data, and it uploaded perfectly. I also like that I am able to see the progress of the data upload and it gives a time estimation. Great service.

Pros

  • The user interface is friendly
  • It does a good job of notifying you when someone else is trying to access the file
  • It is easy to share the file with other people

Cons

  • I think one thing that I would like to see is to have the ability to create a new folder with a right click (like I'm able to do in the finder app on my Mac.) To me, that would make the UI even more friendly and familiar. If you're able to tweak it so that it's more familiar to more users I think that's huge.
  • To me, it doesn't make all that much sense having a tab for photos unless all the photos would be organized when you click that tab. Because in my mind, even if I am looking for a photo, I'm not gonna scroll through the hundreds or thousands of photos I have when I'm looking for one specific photo. I'm gonna look for that photo, by going into the folder for that set of photos. It doesn't help the user when all the photos are all put on one big area and disorganized. I know there are organization filters at the top, but just hitting the photos tab and seeing all of the photos on one area doesn't make much sense to me, unless they're pre organized.
  • Honestly... In short. I would seek to make it as friendly as a Mac when using the finder tab. Right click to create a new folder, give the option to see as you go deeper into folder, within a folder, within a folder
  • It has streamlined my delivery processes for giving my clients their video content.
  • Negative impact is that it has taken me some time to get use to the UI. I'm used to Mac or Windows UI when it comes to creating folders.
  • Positive impact is that it has made my deliverables seem more professional by coming through Dropbox, vs just a Google Drive or link.
9 because overall it works great, but not quite a ten because some of the UI is not as friendly as Mac or Windows when you're in the finder or files app (respectively). Another reason is because when you go to search for something, if you're in a folder, and you go to search something that is not within that folder, and you can't find it that might be frustrating because there is not a visible, clear, and obvious way to tell what folder you're searching in. I just compare it to Windows and Mac, which lets you know pretty clearly which folder you're searching in.
It is comparable, but the reason I selected Google Drive is because 1. it feels more professional, and 2. I wanted something that was really good bang for my buck, and I feel like Dropbox is much better value for the money I am spending on it, versus Google Drive.

Definitely, when I have to deliver photos and videos to clients, Dropbox is perfect for that. Dropbox does lack some large scale project management tools like Notion, Clickup or Monday.com.
