Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox

As a media business, we share many large files with clients, and Dropbox makes it super convenient and easy for them to access shared content. We also love the feature that allows us to invite multiple contributors to a project folder with a simple hyperlink. This comes in handy when we need a place to collect and store video files and photos from people all over the world to create a final edited piece. We can trust that our files are safe and organized and will be easily accessed when it’s time to retrieve them. We also love being able to download the desktop application to our computers and access Dropbox folders as if they’re part of the device storage. I personally utilize this feature quite a bit, especially when adding my podcast content for future episodes and social media posts. These things and more make Dropbox the premier file storage and sharing platform for business professionals, hands down.

Pros

  • File sharing via links to folders
  • Content collaboration
  • Media storage

Cons

  • Interface navigation (would be easier if more like a computer)
  • Show enclosing folder map when I navigate directly to a file
  • Detect duplicate data to optimize storage
  • We love having an extra 2TB of storage on our devices!
  • We have worked on hundreds of collaborative projects using Dropbox sharing features.
  • Since we travel frequently, the offline mode setting has been extremely helpful.
Overall it’s extremely user friendly, but I do occasionally find it difficult to navigate a specific folder I’m searching for, and there are some features that could be slightly easier for less tech savvy clients to use.
You can create an account easily and begin storing files but an account is not required in order to access them the way it is on some of these other programs. Also, any type of file can be easily stored and downloaded to a device with Dropbox, but some of these attempt to convert the file to their preferred format in order to preview or send it.

When I need a client to upload content for our company to review and edit, Dropbox is the best option for us to use. We can create a folder, add their email address to the approved access list, then the client can simply upload content from their device to the folder and we’ll be able to see it in real time. We can even upload the finished product (or versions for client review and feedback) to the same folder. All parties benefit from quick and easy access to files and better communication as a result. The only times I can think of that Dropbox may not be as appropriate to use would be perhaps if you were in a location where you didn’t have an internet connection and functionality would be extremely limited (it would only sync when reconnected to the internet). Or, if you are sharing small files like documents or don’t need to send multiple files, it would make better sense to simply attach them directly to an email than to use Dropbox as a third party service, making it slightly more complex for the recipient to access them.

Yes - It works very well. The mobile app is just as accessible and has all the same features and functionality as the web browser version. It gives users the ability to log in, navigate folders, upload, organize, share, search, rename, and manage access to files. It shows shortcuts to recently accessed, shared, starred, and viewed files.
