Overall Satisfaction with Google Voice

I use Google Voice for my own consulting business needs, and also recommend it to clients and help them get set up on it. My clients that are online educators are the ones that have seen the best success with it. They are able to provide a phone number to their students without revealing their direct cell number.
  • Allows for anonymity. You can share a number with people that you're afraid may call you too much, without revealing your direct cell number.
  • The voice mail to text is great for when I'm in a meeting and can't/shouldn't be listening to my phone. A quick glance at the transcription is enough.
  • Great price - free!
  • Google changes features too frequently, often taking away important features. Used to be able to send bulk text messages, but I believe they've taken that feature away.
  • The user interface of their web admin portal isn't super intuitive. Not something your Grandma could do without help.
  • No others...
  • Since it is free, the ROI is infinity.
  • Saves me considerable time as I'm not taking as many calls from telemarketers.
  • When I switched to a Google "Project Fi" cellphone plan it required me to choose either my original number (non-Google voice) or the Google Voice one. That was super lame. I gave up the flexibility of having a Google Voice number by making it my main number. I can sign up for a new GV number now for the added anonymity, but it is annoying to have to do so.
Compared to more business ready solutions, Google Voice doesn't have near the functionality. However, for a good Five9 setup you're going to be paying thousands of dollars a year, and for Google Voice it is free.
I would say Google Voice is best for most users. I'm sure there are some power user needs that it doesn't meet, though I'm not sure what those needs would be.
