A good value for something you have to get right as an employer.
Overall Satisfaction with Gusto
We use Gusto primarily for payroll processing, contractor payments, and HR document retention. Reports from Gusto are used to feed automatic payroll journal entry imports into our accounting software.
Pros
- Payroll processing.
- Time off tracking.
- Cloud document storage.
Cons
- Reporting engine could use work - significant manipulation is needed in Excel for combination employee/payroll data reports.
- State registration management is not a service offered by Gusto. A third-party registrar is linked as a partner.
- Staffing doesn't meet demand at quarter and year-end.
- Payroll processing.
- Tax payments & reporting.
- Cloud document storage.
- Easy enough that we can have non-accounting folks work with it.
- Employee satisfaction with the platform is significantly higher than its predecessor.
- Savings of about 40% over its predecessor with significantly more flexibility to run off-cycle payroll.
Gusto generally wins on price compared to its competitors. Some organizations nickel-and-dime on billing with headcount, states filed, etc. while Gusto's bills are very easy to calculate and understand. Competitors generally will handle state registrations that Gusto won't do, but that is an occasional inconvenience that's offset by lower pricing.
