Overall Satisfaction with Harvest

We are a smallish (13 people) PR company. As most of our work is billed by hourly rate, we needed an easy-to-use system for time and project tracking. Our previous system was clunky, ancient, and essentially meant for a much larger company. We tried out several options, and Harvest had the best balance of features and user-friendliness. It does what it's meant to do really well with very little distraction. It also works well in the mobile which was a big plus for us.
  • Time tracking. It's so easy to use you never forget to fill in the hours.
  • Reports. Very good and clear reports so you can check if the project is going according to the schedule and budget.
  • Light expense tracking. It's easy to add expenses and there's no need for a third-party software for this.
  • If you have many projects going on simultaneously, Harvest becomes progressively more time-consuming to use.
  • I have some doubts if the software would work so well in a large corporation. Great for small firms and teams, though.
  • Billing capabilities are quite rudimentary.
  • We lose less time in time tracking than before. Not measured, but I'd say we save almost an hour a week per person.
  • We now see earlier if the project needs more time or resources. Less time and money wasted.
  • Billing process is now quicker more straight-forward (although could be also better). In short, thanks to Harvest every worker has more time for doing billable work.
Harvest had just the features we needed and nothing more. It was light and easy to use. Dynamics and Visma had too many features for our needs. Also, their interface was much less modern than in Harvest. Also, Harvest provided the best mobile experience by far. The good thing is that it doesn't try to be any more than a great time tracking app.
In my experience, Harvest is an excellent time tracking and light project management tool for small companies and teams, especially if you are selling services (consultancy, etc.). It's easy to use, has a good set of features but doesn't suffer from featuritis. It's also good for checking the health of the project regarding schedule and budget. I don't think, however, that the software would scale that well to be useful in really big organisations.
