Overall Satisfaction with Hotjar

We use Hotjar mainly for post-release validation to validate experiments and features. We mainly use the recordings and survey features. For the recordings: We monitor the users' actions and measure them against expected actions to know how our features are used. For the surveys: We usually use the widget as well as the survey features as well.

Pros

  • Recordings
  • Surveys
  • Feedback widgets

Cons

  • The filtering of the recordings can be done better
  • Improving the experimentation culture in the company
  • Improving the features incrementally
For surveys, I think Hotjar is better than Maze by a mile. The functionality is directly embedded in the SaaS or webapp which is a major plus.

Qualtrics is a survey powerhouse with many more functionalities for surveys as well as reports, but I think Hotjar has better UX and is more user-friendly, which is much better for designers to use.

Do you think Hotjar delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Hotjar's feature set?

Yes

Did Hotjar live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Hotjar go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Hotjar again?

Yes

For large SaaS products with a huge user base. Hotjar is particularly useful for huge products where users perform complex tasks and the user flows are large and intricate. Recordings can be used to monitor users and improve features. Surveys can be used to, from time to time, ask users about their opinions and areas of improvement. The feedback widget is particularly useful for quick feedback.
